He’s back.

After a two-season exile, the man who took the Broncos to the divisional round in 2011 before being summarily dumped for Peyton Manning will have a new job in the NFL.

Per Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, Tim Tebow will sign with the Eagles on Monday. (Yes, Glazer has the scoop, even though Tebow works for ESPN.)

Traded to the Jets in March 2012, Tebow had a single, disastrous season in New York. Cut by the Jets, the Patriots gave him a look in the 2013 offseason, training camp, and preseason. Tebow didn’t make the 53-man roster, and he hasn’t been heard from again.

The Eagles gave Tebow a workout on March 16, and they reportedly would be inclined to sign him only if Matt Barkley were traded. Barkley hasn’t been traded, and the connection never made sense; with 90 roster spots in the offseason and plenty of quarterbacks needed to distribute the ball during practice sessions.

Tebow arrives with the opening of the offseason program in Philadelphia, rejoining Mark Sanchez and a depth chart that also includes Sam Bradford, Barkley, and G.J. Kinne. With Bradford still rehabbing a torn ACL suffered last August, Tebow becomes as a practical matter the fourth quarterback who is able to participate in practice session that will begin after a two-week lifting/conditioning period.

I'd love to see Tebow back in action again. He deserves it.

How is a QB (with NO seasoning) who led his team into the playoffs, and QB'd his team to a AFC Championship game by ANY measure considered a "failure"?? ANSWER: the know-it-all know-nuthins, anti-Christians and atheist whiners deemed it so.

Yeah - I like the way they set up the story too.Traded to the Jets in March 2012, Tebow had a single, disastrous season in New York.

The Jets had a "disastrous" season (6-10 )- Tebow didn't.

In fact it is my contention that if they HAD played Tebow, it's likely they would have made it too the playoffs.

It could be that Tebow just doesn't have the pro moxie to play at the top level of the NFL. Like the Michael Sams didn't have the chops to play pro ball.

We'd never have even heard of either one except that one was the Virgin Quarterback and the other one was the First Openly Gay Football Player. In other words, the most attention they got as players had nothing to do with their professional sport.

People get emotionally invested in these sideshow issues because of all the media coverage, most of it intended to get fans to react viscerally rather than rationally.

.....that and he was the first college sophomore to win the Heisman trophy. He was also the MVP of a national championship team. He held the Southeastern Conference's all-time records in both career passing efficiency and total rushing touchdowns . As has already been mentioned ,he went on to lead the Broncos to the playoffs in his rookie season after the team had gone 1-4 before he became the started . I'm not saying he'll ever be a great NFL QB . But the system that the Eagles run looks tailor made for Tebow's style of play .

Worth repeating. The Eagles are a team who runs a system. You can be sure it'll take advantage of Tebow's skill set.

Btw, how many QBs are used to winning close games? THAT is on Tebow's NFL resume.

Exactly - and his resume speaks for itself.

I think if he gets a fair chance, he's going to surprise a lot of people.

Amen on that resume.

It's still a big "IF" on whether Tebow is given a fair chance. Coach Kelley seems to travel to the beat of his own drummer and seems immune to media criticism (which was also one of the fears of coaches in playing Tebow....BUT curiously coaches aren't so much criticized by media for playing a bunch of thugs who beat wives and GF, rapists, and the drug-addled.)

Evaluating Tebow is not easy. It is undeniable that he won games. He took a 1-4 Broncos team and turned them into must-watch football every Sunday. Love him or hate him, he put fans in the seats and brought viewers to the tube.

His passing was another story. He missed open receivers repeatedly. For 55 minutes. Then he threw dimes for 5 minutes. A good defense kept games close and helped Tebow. Tebow did not turn the ball over and helped the defense. You might say he won ugly, but he won.

For some interesting reading about Tebow's time training with Tom House, see the following lengthy article:

What is Chip Kelly doing by signing Tim Tebow?

APR 20, 5:42 pm

Mike Garafolo reports on Chip Kelly's possible reasons for signing Tim Tebow and Tebow's chances of actually making the team.

When I first saw colleague Jay Glazer's report Sunday that Chip Kelly's Philadelphia Eagles were about to sign Tim Tebow, I thought, This might break the Internet.

[...]

Before I started working on my book "The QB," I had no intention of writing anything about Tebow in there. However, one of the main characters in the book, Tom House, a former journeyman major league pitcher who has turned into the country's leading sports biomechanics guru, had been working with Tebow for months. Every day for hours. This was after Tebow had been released by the Patriots two years ago and Tom Brady, who has become a protege of House's, recommended the former Broncos QB see House at USC, where he has an office above the third base line.

[...]

The "fixing" of Tim Tebow, the quarterback, would take some three months. House's diagnosis of why Tebow was inaccurate all came back to timing issues with his body. Once they could get his body in sync, the mechanics were actually pretty easy to fix, the former major league pitcher said.

"He still does what he's always done with his throwing arm. We just fixed the front side and gave him a better posture to do it and made him time it better." Beyond that, House said Tebow learned why he would misfire whenever he did, which “The Professor” said was vital for anyone to be at their best.

"We allowed him to understand why the ball goes right or left, why the ball goes high or low and how to spin the ball and how to physically prepare from feet to fingertips and to take it out and make the dynamic movement work for you and not against you. Does the term muscle-head make sense? He muscled everything. He can muscle it when he needs it, but now he's got kinematic sequencing. He's muscled down for efficiency."

Another underlying problem that tied into Tebow's issues in the NFL that House ID'd: The former All-American quarterback had no confidence in his throwing ability.

"He didn't think he could make that throw, so he went to what he was confident in, and that was his legs," House said.

Tebow timing

How does a team that ranks second to last in passing yards with a QB who completes fewer than half his throws continue to win? Stephen J. Dubner has the answer.

Tebow Time

By Stephen J. Dubner

Tim Tebow led six fourth-quarter comebacks in his first 11 starts.

That, not surprisingly, is an NFL record. Also not surprising: It led to a full-fledged outbreak of Tebow Fever. As Tebow ran his record as the Broncos' starting quarterback to 7-1, it was hard to turn on the TV or pick up a magazine without catching a case of it. In this installment of "Football Freakonomics," we look at the numbers behind Tebow's remarkable surge.

We've all heard it: Tebow is not the kind of quarterback who looks good in practice. As it turns out, he doesn't look very good in the first three quarters of games either. Just how bad is he in the early going? In the first half of what ultimately became a Week 10 win against the Chiefs, Tebow missed all four of his attempted passes, making Denver the first team to take a lead into halftime without having a completion since the Packers did it against the Bears in 1994. (The quarterback in that game, by the way, was Brett Favre.)

As bad as Tebow has been in the first 45 minutes, the fourth quarter has plainly been Tebow Time. During his 7-1 run, his fourth-quarter passer rating was 111, third-best in the league. In the critical final five minutes of games, his passer rating was a whopping 124.5.

Interesting analysis.

We'll see if Tebow's new passing skills can help him climb over 3 other QB's to become the Eagles' #1 QB.
