A 24-year-old Turner woman was arrested for attacking a man with a baseball bat after she decided she wanted to end their relationship, police said.
Haley Fox, 24, began an online relationship in 2013 with a 26-year-old Alabama man, according to a Marion County sheriff's office press release. Detectives say the man agreed to move to Oregon and live with Fox this month.
When the two met in person for the first time on April 8, Fox led the man to a table outside her home to sit down and drink some wine, the sheriff's office said.
"It is when Ms. Fox asked him to close his eyes that things took what could have been a deadly turn," the release reads. "Detectives determined that while his eyes closed, Ms. Fox walked behind him and struck him in the head, with a baseball bat."
The man suffered a fractured skull. Fox told investigators she attacked him because she did not want to be his girlfriend.
Fox was arrested and charged with first-degree assault.
"It's one of those disturbing cases," said Baldridge.
A third person, 26-year-old Jennifer Beaumont, was present at the time of the attack, but investigators have not determined her involvement.
Seeking comment a KGW crew went to Fox's home, but a woman asked the crew to leave and contact Fox's attorney.
