Adam Smith, the former medical-device executive whose career was ruined when a video of him berating a Chick-Fil-A employee for the company’s anti-gay stance went viral, said his family is now homeless and living on food stamps.

Mr. Smith, 37, who was the CFO of an Arizona-based catheter manufacturer, told ABC’s “20/20” he was fired after recording an exchange between himself and a drive-thru cashier in June 2012, as the fast-food chain was embroiled in a national controversy over company President Dan Cathy’s public opposition to gay marriage.

“I don’t know how you live with yourself,” he told the cashier in the video, adding that the company was a “hateful corporation.”

Mr. Smith said that since losing his job in Arizona, his wife and their four children were forced to sell their home and live in an RV. Employers have been reluctant to hire him because of his past, he said.

“I don’t regret the stand I took, but I regret … the way I talked to her. … I think people are scared,” Mr. Smith said. “I think people are scared that it could happen again.”

Mr. Smith said that he was paid $200,000 a year at the job before being fired. He also lost $1 million in stock options.

Dang, cut off the last sentence: ' “It [$1 million in stock options] was taken when I lost my employment,” he told ABC. He has also written a new memoir, “A Million Dollar Cup of Water.” '

Amazon: Million Dollar Cup of Water: Discovering the Wealth in Authenticity

The book is still new, the 21 reviews are brutal.     : )

How would they know it was him? Google search I imagine.

If this guy was making 200 grand a year and had a million bucks in stock options just a few years ago is now broke and living in a RV,he was fired as a CFO because he sucks at handling money.

Most likely. His name and the company name would do it.

A lot of companies use quick background checks from internet research firms. It would pop up immediately with them.

He could try applying at Chick-fil-A.     : )

Ok,I just watched the video, and this guy sure is overflowing with hate for people who are "haters",ain't he?

I really loved his lisping line about how he is a "heterosexual",too. Sure he is. And I look like a 22 year old Brad Pitt.

IMHO,he's lucky he just got fired, and nobody dragged him out of his car and beat the snot out of him.

He's not living in that RV with a wife and 4 sons for fun.

He's saying he can't get work because those gay-hatin' chicken-goblin' rednecks might boycott any company that might hire him.

And there is little doubt some people out there are definitely keeping track of him.

I'm not one of them because I'd forgotten this story like everyone else but I stumbled over it in a sidebar while reading some other news story so I decided to post it. You know how I like these follow-up "Rest Of The Story" articles.

Chances are he thought his staged anger and outrage would bring in big-bucks job offers from leftist organization in the northeast or the left coast.

I didn't even care about the story enough to read about it when it first went around. As you know I am strongly in favor of homosexuals having the same rights as any other Americans, but Chick Filet is a private company, and they should be able to hire or not hire anydamnbody they want. The whole "equal treatment under the law" thing was a restriction on GOVERNMENT,not private individuals or companies.

Now that I have seen it,instead of sympathizing with the condescending SOB,I want to be the one to drag him out of his car and beat the "I am so much more evolved than you are" snot out of him.

I thought so too. But the Lefties discard these props. When was the last time you heard of Cindy Sheehan?

I mean, other than those ugly rumors that Lew Rockwell was boning her for a while. LOL

How would they know it was him? Google search I imagine.

He made the video and put it online. Maybe his youtube handle was Adam Mark Smith. What he did was bad enough but his real dumbass move was putting it online. Some companies wouldn't want someone with that judgment as their CFO and star of his viral video.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3013044/Ex-CFO-father-four-food-stamps-looking-job-viral-video-protesting-Chick-fil-left-unemployed.html

After the video went viral, according to a MarketWire statement, Smith was fired from his job at Vante, Inc.

They released a statement saying: 'The actions of Mr Smith do not reflect our corporate values in any manner. Vante is an equal opportunity company with a diverse workforce, which holds diverse opinions.

'We respect the right of our employees and all Americans to hold and express their personal opinions, however, we also expect our company officers to behave in a manner commensurate with their position and in a respectful fashion that conveys these values of civility with others.'

After losing his job at Vante, Smith removed his original video from YouTube and posted an eight-minute video apology to Elizabeth.

'I am so very sorry for the way I spoke to you,' said Smith in the video.

'You handled my frustrating rant with such dignity and composure.

'Every time I watch the video I am blown away by really the beauty in what you did, and your kindness, and your patience with me.'

Smith explained that he was enraged by the number of people that had come out to support the chicken fast-food firm during last weeks 'Chick-fil-A's Appreciation Day' and lost his cool.

Shown Smith's apology by an anchor on Fox News at the time, Elizabeth accepted it.

She said: 'I do forgive him. I think he realizes how bad it was to make that tape. 'I feel sorry for him and his family, and for everything that has happened to him since.'

She really was gracious and seemed sincere that this guy ruined his life and hurt his own family. But it isn't like she was to blame for any of it. She was the intended butt of his vicious rant. He wanted her to be infamous and instead made himself radioactively infamous and her the sympathetic victim.

"Smith explained that he was enraged by the number of people that had come out to support the chicken fast-food firm during last weeks 'Chick-fil-A's Appreciation Day' and lost his cool."

Yet he wasn't enraged that militant homosexual activists organized a nationwide boycott of Chick-fil-A simply because the President of the company made a small personal donation to a pro-traditional-family organization years ago.

Thanks for following up on this. It demonstrates that freedom of speech is protected, not freedom from social consequences.

I don't know about other reactions to the video, but I was struck by how nice the employee was. Which made me hate this guy all the more.

Had the employee snapped back and told him to go f**k himself, I think he'd still have a job today.

Love the part where he says: "I feel great! I just did something purposeful!" The way he said it sure sounded like "doing something purposeful" (even by his own very expansive definition) was an unusual experience for him. Something tells me his former employer was thrilled that he provided them with this opportunity to fire him without getting sued. He's such an insufferable jerk, I'm sure they'd been wanting to get rid him for a long time.
