Michael Van Der Galien has tried to understand why the Ted Cruz presidential candidacy announcement has set social media on its ear and advances a tentative theory. “But why are leftists’ heads exploding as well? I’ve got no doubt I know the answer: they fear him. Tremendously even. He is everything they oppose: a true, small-government conservative.”

If that were all Cruz were guilty of it wouldn’t be half bad. It’s far worse. His “Imagine” speech seemed calculated to ridicule every Leftist shibboleth with predictable effect. The Left lost no time characterizing him as a Christian bigot, a patriarchal supremacist, an uneducated, crazy, anti-poor, anti-abortion “uppity loudmouth” besides being that supreme abomination, a White Latino. If there’s some sacred cow in the Leftist canon Ted Cruz has left undefiled, he will soon enough defile it. That’s the plan.

Cruz was intentionally provocative because he intends to make the Left itself the main issue. People of all shapes and sizes were rising to their feet, clapping their hands raw and shouting themselves hoarse not because they necessarily agree with his policy positions, but because he was sticking it to the Man. He was knocking Gessler’s hat off the pole in the public square and the onlookers loved it.

In around the year 1307 the Habsburg overlords of the alps appointed a man called Gessler to rule over the villagers. Gessler hung his hat on a pole in the square and demanded that all the townsfolk bow before the hat.

We all know what happened next. A fellow named William Tell wandered into the village and did the unthinkable. He refused to bow before the hat.

On 18 November 1307, Tell visited Altdorf with his young son and passed by the hat, publicly refusing to bow to it, and so was arrested. Gessler—intrigued by Tell’s famed marksmanship, yet resentful of his defiance—devised a cruel punishment: Tell and his son would be executed, but he could redeem his life by shooting an apple off the head of his son, Walter, in a single attempt. Tell split the apple with a bolt from his crossbow.

William tell did something everyone thought was impossible. He resisted. The power of Ted Cruz’s speech stems from his refusal to bow before the liberal hat. If you were to re-write his speech into its essentials it might sound like this. “Imagine if we could tell all the stuffed shirts in the media to buzz off. Imagine if we could tell the busybodies to butt out our lives. Imagine if we could actually tell the IRS we want to keep our money. Imagine if we could the tell the NSA you need a warrant to tap my phone. Imagine if we didn’t have to feel guilty of being Americans. Imagine that we could call Islamic terrorism by its name.”

Of course Cruz put it more cannily then that, but that was the message. We can continue.

“But you don’t have to imagine because I’m doing it right now. I am standing right here, committing what is accounted political suicide saying every damned thing you ever felt like saying but couldn’t. I’m on YouTube giving every bit of lip you were afraid to give for fear you might lose your job. Do you see that hat over there my friend? I’m going to knock it down. All I am asking you to do is take out your cellphones and punch in this number and by that ever so negligible act, join in the fray!”

Yippee. There’s not a few who would rise to their feet under the sting of that message and bang their palms together not out of the love of Ted Cruz, but under the impetus of shame. Shame that it took so long for someone to say what was obvious; shame that they hadn’t said it themselves.

The intellectual establishment has predictably taken the bait. Bearded so openly, they have sneered and they snorted and cast aspersions down like ordure from their high towers upon the rabble beneath. That’s exactly the expected response and they’ve only confirmed Cruz’s message. By and by the worst of these taunts will be withdrawn by canny media analysts who understand the trap as laid, but the damage is done. Ted Cruz wanted the aristocracy to show its upturned face and that, it has done.

Cruz may not become president of the United States. He may never even win the nomination of the Republican party. But if anyone wants to know why there was such a wave of emotion in response to his incendiary pronouncements, it is the resentment of the serfs, who dream of being serfs no more. The liberals aren’t fighting Cruz. They’re fighting their whole sordid history of high handed deception.

Imagine.

NBC's Kaise Hunt had a comment that is revealing about the left's views of conservatives : KASIE HUNT, NBC NEWS: "To give you a sense of Cruz and where he has come from, this has been a very rapid rise. He’s only 44 years old. He was born in Canada, but he renounced his Canadian citizenship over the past year. He grew up in Houston, attended Princeton and Harvard. So, not necessarily the type of pedigree that would immediately seem to appeal to the base of the party, but at the same time those are the voters he is going after here."

You see ,Cruz is too smart for us hay-seed rubes . At the same time they attack Scott Walker because he never finished college.

Meanwhile at MSNBC ,on Morning Joe ,Donny Deutsch claimed that even though Cruz graduated from two Ivy League schools , he's actually dumb. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/donny-deutsch-ted-cruz-dumb

Remember when the Democrats decried the politics of personal destruction ? Their comments yesterday were just the opening salvo.

I think he is up to it, tom. They've done nothing but attack him since day one. Ditto the RINOs. He has thick skin and he can intellectually run circles around all of them. He is unabashedly pro-Constitution and pro-American exceptionalism. Globalists hate that.

Without commenting on the plusses or minuses of Ted Cruz (I'd vote for him if he were the nominee), I'm coming to the conclusion that we've missed the point.

While THE LEFT has been successful at producing Manchurian candidates (Zero, Hil-liar-y, and Warren, if Hil-liar-y implodes), it has been even better at remaking the electorate.

The electorate has been dumbed-down, corrupted with illegals and government sucklings, and others who have no stake in or knowledge of what America is about.

"Gimme mine" is all they're about.

So while we can argue whether or not Ted Cruz (or someone like him) is ready or if he is not, the bigger question is this: "Is America ready for a Constitutional conservative?"

I see little evidence that it is.

Sadly,I agree. The balance beam has already tilted too far to the left, and there are too many voters out there protecting their turf and demanding they get a bigger slice of the pie.

It's all about "Me,me,ME,DAMMIT!",and they are too ignorant and short-sighted to understand that in the long run they are writing their own obits. We are all floating around in the same boat, and when you sink the boat everybody is going to drown.

EXACTLY.

The Left,as well as RINOs, socialists (R)s and Statist will ALL jump onboard this feeding frenzy. They fear a man who's plan is to expose them ALL.

Meanwhile, Cruz is strafing and bombing all the Left stands for. He is the George S. Patton of Pubbies. This will quickly escalate into a Battle Royale.

If EVER there's been a worthy candidate for President since Reagan, Ted Cruz is IT. We finally get a man of principle, who's willing to fight to uphold the Constitution and re-establish the integrity of the Office of the Presidency.

Let HIM articulately and passionately make his own case to the American people, and he'll trump the lying caricatures of the Pro-Statist/Leftist media puppets, reptilian RINOs, and Globalists. Reagan overcame much the SAME thing.

I see little evidence that a serious, articulate, passionate Constitutional Republican with a pair to run for President has actually run in ages. Truth is, we don't know to what degree America is or isn't ready since they've never been presented that option -- perhaps not since Reagan.

We're dealing with an unknown quantity here. But that's because the Dems and Left control the major media, while the globalist-statist RNC controls the GOP.

Ted Cruz is literally America's LAST shot at salvaging this Republic.

What needs to happen - in fact, what probably should have happened 20 or 30 years ago - is for someone (a political party or a deep pocketed good samaritan) to go on a massive education campaign.

Using ads, 30 second soud bytes, billboards, busses - whatever - it needs to be drummed into people the benefits of things like freedom and liberty (and its kissing cousin, small, limited government.

This wouldn't obviously nullify the years of indoctrination that passes for public education and exposure to the media, but it would at least be a start.

I'm not one that says the electorate is necessarily stupid, but it IS ignorant. (of things like US History and how we got here, for starters)

It may be - probably is - too late. But the electorate needs to be changed before any one candidate can do anything at all positive.

Thanks. Excellent summary of the leftard coverage.

If anything, Cruz just made himself the GOP/Tea Party "lightening rod." He set the tone.

He may not be the nominee anytime soon, but I do remember a former GOP candidate who gave rousing speeches on liberty and freedom for decades before Americans looked at him as their 'guy.' He ended up taking 44 states in his election and 49 in his re-election.

A valid assessment as we all see it in our communities. The constant leftist march to make the USA a European crap hole socialist nanny state is gaining ground each day. With each SCOTUS decision we become that much more serfs.

Someone has to break free of the seige works and go on the offensive. The first salvo was yesterday.

I guess your question, our question is will the serfs rise up to take on the cause?

The problem is you can't force people to use their businesses to promote your political viewpoints against their will.

Unless you are any color but white, that is. Then it becomes about discrimination because you have rights that white people don't have.

In fact,I seem to vaguely recall a case that was tossed out of court a decade or so ago over this very issue. Some national media outlet had refused to take advertising that hit on leftist talking points and the people who tried to take out the add took their case to court, where it was tossed.

The claim that Cruz is "dumb" -- THAT'S going to be hilarious noting who those idiots are. Deutsch is already a discredited moronic puppet.

No question: A barrage of salvos were unloaded yesterday, and as long as Cruz picks up steam. Who the Left and establishment GOP hates and fears the most should clarify exactly who our candidate for President ought to be.

Let's takes the initiative and follow Patton's philosophy of advancing constantly. NO "holding onto our positions."

Will the serfs join the fight? That remains to be seen...and to what extent they are willing to accept an imminent future of bondage and end of the Republic otherwise.

A valid assessment as we all see it in our communities.

There is no hope for "gimmedats." I would expect a cut to their gov check and EBT card and Obamaphone demolition might just turn them around. They'll have no choice.

Where I live, people want jobs. They were solid middle class and happy. They have lost everything, their houses, their cars. Some are actually forced to live on the streets. We are not talking about scum here. Real working, proud Americans, ashamed to be on EBT and Obama phones. Jobs, unhindered business expansion will get their attention and give them hope..real hope. I see students with degrees mixing paint because that is the only job they could find. Afraid because they can't pay off their student loans on part-time work. Graduating with high hopes, only to discover that there are no jobs but menial and having to compete with Mexicans just to land that job. Sad.

No one loves the IRS. And people are angry about the Big Brother surveillance. They watch the citizens and miss the terrorists. White people are sick and tried of being trashed, just because they're white. What white privilege? Several people have stated that to me. They're tired of PC. Hate speech.

People don't like Obamacare. They've had to give up their doctors and they are mad a heck because they have no choice. People can't pay the premiums much less the high deductables which comes out of pocket first before their expensive insurance kicks in. Seniors are being denied treatment.

People unable to get their pain meds. Yes, it is rampant. It even affects me. I have Sciatica and when it hits, the pain is severe. It took me 3 weeks to get my prescription filled...that was never a problem before. And, instead of my doctor renewing my meds, I now have to make the trek every month to pick up a paper prescription from the doctor. They are no longer allowed to give a 3 month auto renewal or phone it in to the pharmacy. Just getting to their office is a traffic nightmare. Then it's a big building and parking lots we have to walk thru just to get to the office and pick up the prescription...one month at a time. I watch the elderly suffering because they can't get their meds and the trip is hard on them.

There is alot going on in the nation and the people are feeling the pinch. They are angry and afraid.

People are angry that the Democrats refuse to call jihadis terrorists. We know exactly what they are. People are not stupid.

They love our country and they want citizens to come first. They are furious about the invasion and seeing job after job being taken away and given to Mexicans. They resent having to pay to educate their kids and give them assistance because they work under the table. They're tired of the crime and disease that shows up with them. They're tired of minorities being above the law. They're tired of Obama's importations from enemy countries. They're tired of having their faith degraded.

Parents hate common core. They hate to see their kids dumbed down because some Mexican doesn't speak a word of english.

Taxes and fees are too dammed high. Inflation is everywhere except in the governments glowing reports. We all buy food and have to replace clothing. You can't fool the shoppers. Average people are not prospering in this society. Only stock holders are ecstatic...but most people know that it is government/Fed money shoring the market up. Their tax dollars making investors rich while they have to budget carefully and give up things they love.

I could go on and on...and that's just what I find in my area. These things resonate with the great unwashed. Cruz does have the American mood right. So far, he is the only one who does. What I'm really saying is, Cruz has widespread appeal if he can get the message out.

I've donated the minute he announced online. It isn't much but it is a sacrifice on my part-time income. I received a thank you within hours.

He will need strong grassroots ground crews. I'll volunteer as much as I can. We the People have to make this happen. Last election was dire...Obama needed stopping. This election is critical. We are on life support. If we don't get a true fighter, one who unabashedly loves this nation and Constitution, a proven Conservative who will actually change things, it is truly over. There will be no other chances.

I don't agree with Cruz on a couple of points, but Cruz is the only candidate who shoves it in their faces. He does not do identity politics. He is not afraid of anyone...they can't defeat him. They can't own him. He will not bow down. He hasn't weaseled out on his campaign promises. He is steady as a rock.

True, Rufus. But working young Democrats are disillusioned. I don't think many will go out of their way to vote. They've had enough hope and change. This is probably the reason Obama is attempting to make voting mandatory. He knows the Rats are losing ground.

That's why it's up to us, Rufus. Talking to people..I'm not suggesting a get in their faces approach, but just inserting suptlely what Cruz says on an issue when someone brings it up in conversation.

Tax season is just ahead. People complain about the forms, the headaches, the desire to keep their own money, how much will the Obamacare penalty take out of their pockets. Will they get a refund. Cruz wants to abolish the IRS. That is attention getting.

We can make a difference in our own little circles if we try.

For certain, the MSM is going out of their way to attack Cruz Fox News is basically ignoring him. They have for some time. They are in for the GOPe and it's obvious. I was watching Fox shows tonight. Out comes Rove and Hume. I repeatedly heard the word "moderate." I wish I'd counted how many times that word was inserted. Brainwashing.

To Hannity's credit, he did give Cruz a full hour on his program.
