Title: Woman Dies While on Phone with 9-1-1. Cop Chooses to Go to Lunch Instead of Respond to Call

woman-dials-after-dialing-9-1-1

Lee County, FL — A woman is dead, and a deputy is on paid vacation after deciding to go to lunch instead of respond to a 9-1-1 call.

Sheriff Micke Scott thinks his deputy should be fired for not showing up.

At approximately 1:00 pm someone called 9-1-1 and dispatchers say that the person on the other end of the phone was silent. It would later be discovered that it was 47-year-old Gwen Minis calling. She had just gotten out of the hospital after suffering from a heart attack.

Minis’ brother found his sister lying face down with ants crawling all over her body. She had her phone in one hand and a bottle of pills in the other.

It would be nearly an hour before any “help” would show up. Sadly, this would prove to be far too late for Gwen Minis.

When the call came in, it was immediately dispatched by the operator.

“We know that we dispatched a 9-1-1 call, we know that it was a valid call,” said Scott.

Operators stayed on the line, and a deputy  named Yvan Fernandez was dispatched, according to WINK News.

Fernandez claimed to be on the way to the call, but this proved to be a lie. According to the sheriff’s investigation, it appears that Fernandez instead went to lunch.

“I need to confirm whether or not whether he was physically at the restaurant when the call came to him or whether he had not yet made it to the restaurant and was still en route,” said Scott.

Not until 30 minutes into the call was another deputy dispatched. But before any help arrived, family and friends had already found Minis’ lifeless body lying on the ground.

“Immediately upon learning of this, I took his gun, his badge and his vehicle and put him on what we call administrative leave with pay,” said Scott.

A common response to the question of “Why do you pay taxes?” usually includes something about roads and police. The response is normally along the lines of, “well if we didn’t pay taxes, who would protect us and do the job of the police?”

Unfortunately, the idea that police protect you is a misconception as they will seldom prevent the loss of life.

In the case of Gwen Minis, an officer’s appetite won out over his sworn duty to “protect and serve.”

Had the call been about an illegal plant or suspicious amounts of cash, would Fernandez still have blown it off? (1 image)

"Paid vacation"

Any other constitutional protections you disagree with?

Non-cop peons are charged and held in jail or bond is posted.

Cops get a paid vacation.

If he was a soldier (isn't that what you cops like to call yourselves) he would be charged with dereliction of duty.

Nice spin. We were talking about termination of a job and loss of pay, without due process... not the issue of bail.

Nice try tho.

When Deckard has an accident, drunk... and refuses to give blood, is arrested, he gets a tiny blurb in the paper... and keeps his broadcasting station job, that's due process. If Deckard is a politician, and the same happens 3 weeks prior to reelection, he still keeps his paid job... until his ass is voted out. That's also due process. lol

When a cop gets arrested for the same... he gets front page, half page article... gets suspended from his job right away... and then some constitution hating hypocrites would like him punished further, before trial. That's a cop blockers Due process.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. —

A former Orange County Sheriff's Office deputy who was fired for excessive force is now working elsewhere as a police officer, WFTV has learned.

Jeff Iannuzzi was fired from the Orange County Sheriff's Office in 2010, but was later hired at the Ocoee Police Department.

Ocoee city leaders defended their decision. Sources told WFTV reporter Shannon Butler that Iannuzzi is a nice guy, but has had some anger issues during arrests.

You still are defecting from the original point... which was your stellar ability to preach constitutional rights, call people traitors and boot lickers to those would ever speak against due process... unless it's you, talking about a cop.

Ok, I agree that any officer fired or terminated from one department, shouldn't be hired at another. Even if he/she wasn't criminally arrested. As a Chief or Sheriff, I wouldn't risk the liability lawsuit if that officer should continue his misconduct at the new department... but that doesn't negate the fact that you live by two constitutional standards... formed from hate and bias. One for you... and another for a cop.

Cops live by their own unconstitutional standards when dealing with the public.

They have the "If you're not cop, you're criminal" mindset.

I'm sure there's a few good ones out there, but they normally cover for the bad ones.

If they are going to treat the public like the enemy, fuck em if they get what's coming to them.

Unfortunately as we can see here, the penalty for misconduct is usually a two-week vacation.

What does that have to do with your constitutional hypocrisy? Are you saying 2 wrongs make a right... or are you deflecting from the valid point I made?

This is true in some cases... but not most. Most department discipline proceedures are actually CONTRACTUAL... and the department or chief is bound to follow the agreement.

My department, for example, if this were to be alleged, the officer would be "suspended pending termination"... the officer would not be paid for the first 90 days of the suspension... but he would be paid after that if the officer hasn't been found guilty of a criminal charge and the union attorneys are fighting the allegation. These legal battles take years and is expensive for the department to pay an officer not working and the department ISN'T able to rehire a new officer until the suspended one resigns or its been ruled by an administration judge, that he should be fired, after a hearing.

This is why so many criminal shit bag officers never get charged for their crimes, because most departments opt to take a resignation, QUICKLY, in lieu of a costly battle that takes years.

Now, I agree there should be a more streamlined way to remove bad officers, but you won't find a job where the employee gets more false allegations than a LEO.

Now, my point to Mr. Yellow journalism is this, his news source has to shade that article in many bad lights to make their bias points... one of them is shitting on due process. Secondly, the last paragraph tells all. The article, like EVERY Deckard article, was obviously written to give legal drugs for all a final advertised plug.

May well have been the case. However, it will always remain pure speculation. If it's a relative or friend of mine in this situation, I'm being optimistic.

THIS is true.

What's bothering me is the electron microscope The Fuzz (yeah, "Fuzz," lol) suddenly find themselves under these days. Though no angels and often over-officious statist tools with personal axes to grind, there seems to be a concerted organized effort to demonize LE in ALL cases. Troubling trend.
