Title: NY Lawmakers to Pay People to Report their Neighbors to the Police for Warming Up their Cars ("If You See Something, Say Something")

New York, NY — New York City Council members introduced a bill this week that would reward people for snitching on neighbors who leave their car idling.

The measure would require potential snitches to take a video of the idling car, complete with the license plate, to be used for evidence to generate a fine. The government would then cut the snitch in on up to 50% of the spoils earned from the fines.

The bill would carry fines of up to $2,000 for repeat offenders, which is a relatively steep increase from the fines that are already on the books.

This Wednesday, City Council members Helen Rosenthal (D-Manhattan) and Donovan Richards (D-Queens) will introduce the controversial new bill. Nosy neighbors are sadly salivating at the opportunity to snitch on their fellow New Yorkers.

Banker and potential snitch George Pakenham told the New York Post that “On my block alone, I could produce 20 tickets a day, easily.”

“This is going to be the thing that makes the entire difference. This will be just the tonic to have people engaged and earn a great deal of money along the way,” he added.

The city of New York has had laws against idling since 1971, which forbids vehicles from idling for longer than three minutes. Recently, an addition was made to the law to shorten this time to one minute for vehicles that were parked in front of schools.

According to the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings, the city made nearly $100,000 last year by enforcing 209 idling violations.

“We can pass these laws, we’ve strengthened the fines . . . But the real problem is enforcement. You’re obviously upping the interest by having people share in the fine,” Rosenthal said.

The measure is supposed to protect the environment, but just like the rain tax and the vast majority of government regulations, the real goal is to fleece innocent people of their hard earned cash.

Brings to mind the famous Soviet cases where children were rewarded and became famous for denouncing their own parents and family members. The Soviet program was a combination of commie Boy Scouts and Hitler Youth.

Soviet Young Pioneers

The Soviet Union was the world's first modern totalitarian state. After the Civil War as the Bolshevicks began to consolidate their power they began to create a youth movement to shape the upcoming generation. Totalitarian states must control all aspects of the population's life. And shaping youth is a critical aspect of this. At the time the principal international youth movement was the Boy Scouts and Scouting influenced the new Pioneer Movement. Unlike Scouting, however, there was little family involvement. The Pioneer Movement was entirely comtrolled by the state through the Communist Party. The Party used the Pioners to indoctrinate young people in Communist ideology and as a way of recruiting and evaluating new recruits. At first it was a movement just for the workers but was eventually broadened into a mass movement for all young people. The Young Pioneers became virtually compulsory and was managed through the schools. The Government underwrote the costs of the Pioneer Movement including a summer camp program. One interesting aspect of the Pioneers is the rapidity with which the movement disapeared after state financial support was ended.

Why not... it will be their new crack money. Inner city zoo animals need extra spending cash too.

The libtard city trying to police a libtard global warming fear monger law without hiring code officers and LEO's to patrol it. They will expect the scared, addicted sheep to snitch... and guess what, your peers will be happy to do it.

This should put a smile on your libertarian face, Deckard. This legislative law will reduce government by using your peers to police it... and save the polar bears all at the same time... while giving the pro drug movement a little extra spending cash to buy an 8 ball with. lol

I'm glad I left that filthy libtard state behind.

Where have I ever condoned the actions by the police, or citizens ratting out their neighbors, you ignorant prick?

You confuse the term "libertarian" with liberal.

And that's the least of your problems.

They'd make a killing in Illinois at the toll booths. Seems to me that if the politicians really were worried about the environment they'd tear down the toll booths.

You, like I, condone smaller government. Using citizens to police themselves does that... does it not? How many times have you suggested that an armed civilian is a better solution than waiting for police response? Do you now think only cops should investigate and testify for laws passed by your elected officials?

No need for juvenile name calling. lol

Seems to me that you want your cake and eat it too. You only want....

The laws you like passed

No cops to enforce them

No citizens to police themselves....

Just anarchy. lol
