President Obama communicated with Hillary Rodham Clinton via email but didn’t know the “details” of how his secretary of state was using a private, off-the-books email address, the White House said Monday. “They did have the occasion to email one another. … He was not aware of the details of how that email address and how that server had been set up or how Secretary Clinton and her team were planning to comply with the Federal Records Act,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters. “The president did email with Secretary Clinton. I assume he recognized the email he was emailing back to.” It was revealed last week that Mrs. Clinton did not use an official government email address during her four years in charge of the State Department and conducted all business on a private account. The administration previously has said the president learned of the email scandal via news reports. Poster Comment: I guess when he received an email from @gmail.com it did not send star clusters up.

What a bonehead this mouthpiece is. He actually makes Obola look worse than he has to. What a dillrod. I do recall clearly that Obama uses a special iPad to receive copies of his daily security briefing. It seems likely that his emails would go through the same device. You don't see a computer on the desk in the Oval Office. And Obama is well-known as a hardcore Blackberry kind of guy. So if he was emailing on an iPad (or an Apple OSX computer) he would not see any actual email address on his screen, provided Hitlery's email address was in his Address Book. He would only see her name unless he had some reason to tap (or click) on it to change the address he was replying to. On some (older) email systems, they show you both name and email address on the To: line. With Apple Mail, they don't. You can change it but normally you just see the name. So far, what Obama saw in his email program for the Reply address seems a non-issue. Does anyone expect he actually maintains his own Address Book? Desktop Macs with Apple Mail are quite similar to iPad's and their Mail. Notice the From: (Amazon.com) and To: (Pat's GMail) in the little blue bubbles at the top. That is all you ever see of the actual person you are addressing. To change the To/From entries or even just to see what the actual email address is, you have to click or tap the blue bubble. Then it will show you the actual destination email address and any other email addresses for that person stored in the Address Book. I don't see any smoking gun just yet on What Barry Knew About Hilly's Email Address And When He Knew It, despite his bonehead spokesman making it sound like the Boy President couldn't possibly have failed to notice he was emailing on a forbidden private server. If he's had the wireless secured and/or uses USB connectivity, it's not an issue. Also, you can easily jailbreak Apple devices like iPads and install custom software. I think the NSA and CIA could rig a very secure iPad for Obama. If they can't, we're in deeper doodoo than we knew. When they told us that he had dumped the Blackberry as incompatible/insecure (they didn't spell it out) and mentioned the iPad for his copy of daily security briefing (which he reads/reviews in bits throughout the day as he has time), I assumed he was using it tethered via USB only. There is some recent news that the WH is going to a wireless jamming system for blocks around the WH. One assumes that wireless spying is a rising threat as it often was at the Pentagon during the Cold War when we built a lot of securely shielded systems or put the systems inside Faraday cages to prevent electronic eavesdropping. Wireless espionage is old hat to NSA/CIA. I assume these new measures indicate that wireless spying has ramped up sharply (perhaps from receivers in local embassies near enough to the WH) and possibly it is a result of successful wireless espionage that just haven't been reported publicly yet.
If you are biking or jogging w/in X miles of Camp David, your device won't work or will be jammed. My friend told me this awhile back - can't remember if X was 1 or 2 or 3 miles. My first thought was 3, so that might be the right answer.
Strange. Obama hates Camp David and has spent less time there than any prez. I've wondered before why no one ever mentions it. I think he's only been up there 2 or 3 times. Only once that I'm sure of, in the first half of 2009. Biden doesn't go either.

Taboo in the DoD my friend. No secure comms, documents or computing with wireless. USBs are the spawn of Satan for DoD networks thanks to "Brenda" Manning. All PEDs must be left outside of a secure area. They even have sniffers to find offenders that try or forget. Now why would 'we' have one rule for the DoD and then another for the Prez who our adversaries try to hack more than any US agency? That was rhetorical of course. True he does have an iPad for his daily brief, but I believe that is a stand alone deal and is not connected to a wireless network.

Actually, all USB devices, without exception are insecure and can be used to attack any system they are part of. This was part of Stuxnet where the techniques first became noticed by the hacker community. Even so, as long as you maintain control of your computers and connected USB devices, they are no more insecure. You probably realize they are not using stock units. Recall the Snowden info dump that indicated that CIA/NSA routinely intercept thousands of computers and digital devices mid-shipment and replace key components with custom firmware, put extra chips on motherboards, all kinds of electonic meddling with devices. That is part of the NSA mission. And they can white-hat as well, securing devices that ordinary customers cannot secure. People forget just how much digital savvy NSA really has. Staggering. Beyond your imaginaton. Snowden never even hinted at the NSA's true technical capabilities which are among America's most closely guarded national secrets. Keep in mind that NSA is almost certainly running constant honeypot operations against known targets. I have to admit, letting Hitlery run a homebrew email with secrets and Obama's email and that of others is so staggeringly stupid that I almost think it simply must be a trap set by NSA to draw in all the hackers to grab Hilly's "secrets". Then I think that our espionage opponents (Israel, China, NATO countries, Norks, etc.) simply could not be stupid enough to fall for a "Hillary's secret email server" honeypot. So I'm caught on the horns of a familiar dilemma. Is it a honeypot? Is Hillary so stupid? Is no one in charge of comm security at all at State? Incompetence or just another NSA honeypot to spread disinfo? Hard to tell.
Just by coincidence, Slashdot has several stories that bear directly on comments I made to you about iPads and Stuxnet and WH jamming. And, despite supposedly being patched in 2010, they have finally patched a major Stuxnet flaw:

Thanks. The last one about drone testing is odd. We have places to test such things elsewhere. Good places which can replicate the entire spectrum. Something else is up or a moonbat reported this.

Well, as the story link from Slashdot indicates, it was the moonbats of the Associated Press. Pretty mainstream stuff. There were other media reports recently on radio jamming in the WH vicinity. I think these are all connected. In this case, "S.S." is probably just a front for CIA and NSA technical expertise.
There is a subtext here. The jamming isn't enough. This is likely an effort to disrupt very small autonomous drones guided by GPS, not radio signals. Drones loaded with C4 or nerve gas or anthrax spores or hazardous radioisotopes in fine powder form. Even more, an autonomous swarm of such drones intended to overwhelm WH countermeasures capability. The same capability is needed for Wall Street as our enemies noticed the panic and economic losses we took on 9/11. I expect the results will never be announced but they'll deploy some lasers or microwave weapons in the vicinity of the WH and other Beltway targets to knock out such drones or drone swarms. Mmmm...maybe I already posted too much. We are watched by a Big Eye who notes anyone even capable of voicing certain thoughts.

CIA Tried To Crack Security of Apple Devices
According to a story at The Guardian passed on by an anonymous reader, The CIA led sophisticated intelligence agency efforts to undermine the encryption used in Apple phones, as well as insert secret surveillance back doors into apps, top-secret documents published by the Intercept online news site have revealed. he newly disclosed documents from the National Security Agency's internal systems show surveillance methods were presented at its secret annual conference, known as the "jamboree."

A five-year-old Microsoft patch for the .LNK vulnerability exploited by Stuxnet failed to properly protect Windows machines, leaving them exposed to exploits since 2010. Microsoft today is expected to release a security bulletin, MS15-020, patching the vulnerability (CVE-2015-0096). It is unknown whether there have been public exploits of patched machines. The original LNK patch was released Aug. 2, 2010. Mysterious, middle-of-the-night drone flights by the U.S. Secret Service during the next several weeks over parts of Washington — usually off-limits as a strict no-fly zone — are part of secret government testing intended to find ways to interfere with rogue drones or knock them out of the sky, The Associated Press has learned.
A U.S. official briefed on the plans said the Secret Service was testing drones for law enforcement or protection efforts and to look for ways, such as signal jamming, to thwart threats from civilian drones. The drones were being flown between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because this person was not authorized to publicly discuss the plans. The Secret Service has said details were classified. ... The challenge for the Secret Service is quickly detecting a rogue drone flying near the White House or the president's location, then within moments either hacking it to seize control over its flight or jamming its signal to send it off course or make it crash.
