Title: Create an EU army to keep back the Russians, Jean-Claude Juncker suggests

A European Union army should be created to help defend the continent from Russian aggression, the European Commission president has suggested.

Jean-Claude Juncker said pooling the defence resources of the 28 EU nations could help send a message to Vladimir Putin that its borders would be protected.

However the move was panned by the UK Independence Party who warned the move would be a "tragedy for the UK".

The comments came during an interview Mr Juncker gave with Welt am Sonntag, a German news magazine.

"Such an army would help us to build a common foreign and national security policy, and to collectively take on Europe's responsibilities in the world,” Mr Junker said.

He added: “It would show Russia that we are serious when it comes to defending the value of the European Union."

The comments were seized on by Ukip's defence spokesman Mike Hookem, who said: "A European army would be a tragedy for the UK.

"We have all seen the utter mess the EU has made of the eurozone economy, so how can we even think of trusting them with this island's defence?

"This is simply a disaster in the making that would see Gibraltar returned to Spain and the Falkland Islands left open to an unopposed invasion by Argentina.

"Even more concerning would be the prospect of British troops under European command operating in the eastern Ukraine."

A Government spokeswoman said: "Our position is crystal clear that defence is a national, not an EU responsibility and that there is no prospect of that position changing and no prospect of a European army."

Just great! The US government by meddling in the Ukraine has created another COLD WAR and further escalation of aggression.

"The German may be a good fellow, but it is best to hang him just the same." - Russian saying.

Title: Create an EU army to keep back the Russians drag the Yanks into our squabbles, Jean-Claude Juncker suggests

The primary objective of EU/NATO is to drag America into its pet military conquests.

Kosovo/Bosnia/Serbia in the Nineties, Libya more recently.

The pattern is that EU/NATO stirs up some hornets' nest, then whines that it can't handle the result because it won't spend on its military and won't buy the necessary military transport and bomb stockpiles and missiles until some idiot American prez steps in to save the day for "democracy".

It's pathetic. That the media and voters keep falling for this worn-out schtick is appalling.

How is the situation "pathetic?" It is a pure gravy train deal for the US military-industrial complex to support the mission. America's economy is built on the bedrock of sale, Sale, SALE of American military expertise and hence it is a win, Win, WIN deal for all Americans. Think of all the jobs created for the poor, destitute illegal aliens begging for the "dream act" to become true.

It just so happens that this idea of an EU army was addressed in the EU Parliament by Nigel Farage of Britain's rising UKIP party. Via LRC.

Wars are good for the economy and manufacturing. Even Cold Wars.

some idiot American prez steps in to save the day for "democracy".

More correctly,to save the day for people collecting dividends, union bosses and workers in defense industries, and politicians that fear rising unemployment rates.

The one thing you can always count on politicians doing without fail is pleasing the people who give them the biggest contributions.

True enough. I was mostly caromimg off the Farage angle. I've been a big fanboi ever since his memorable speech declaring the EU prez a damp rag. Really infuriated all the EUrocrats!

The more they booed him, the more he yelled at them. LOL. What a guy.

We need some congresscritters with half the guts and speaking skill of Farage.
