Potential Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush's wife Columba has very expensive taste when it comes to jewelry - taking out loans to buy $90,000 worth of jewelry over a 14-year period.

State filings show Columba Bush, 61, the wife of the former Florida Governor, owns several Rolex watches and a pair of $25,000 diamond earrings.

In 1999 she was fined for misrepresenting the amount of clothing and jewelry she had bought while on a shopping trip in Paris by federal customs officials.

Husband Jeb Bush, 62, said at the time she misled customs because she did not want him to know that she had spent $19,000 on the trip.

But less than a year later she took out a loan to buy $42,311.70 worth of jewelry on a single day, according to records filed with the state of Florida by Mayors Jewelers, and seen by the Washington Post.

Mrs Bush took out the loans to buy tens of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from the South Florida store over a 14-year period.

Documents available online shows that she spent a total of more than $90,000 at the store.

Uniform Commercial Code forms filed by the store with the Florida secretary of state's office on May 3, 2000, indicate that Mayors arranged a loan under which Columba Bush bought four items.

They were a $25,600 pair of diamond stud earrings set in platinum; a $10,500 18-karat white-gold and diamond bracelet by Bulgari; an 18-karat white-gold and diamond necklace, which cost $3,200; and another pair of diamond earrings, for $3,300.

The paper reports that this was one of at least five such loans made by the store to Columba Bush between 1995 and 2009.

In 1997 she bought a Roman coin necklace for $15,000 and a $16,600 Rolex watch studded with diamonds.

The most recent loan was to pay for an $11,700 Rolex watch and a $5,900 pair of earrings.

Jeb Bush's political team insisted that her tastes and shopping habits are not an issue.

'Mrs. Bush bought jewelry from time to time from Mayors Jewelers over the years,' Bush spokeswoman Kristy Campbell told the Washington Post.

'Though not required to be reported, these purchases in 2000 were included as accounts payable on Governor Bush's financial disclosure that year, and paid off the next.'

Campbell also said that the governor was 'aware she made purchases from time to time.'

Mayors spokesman Francis Guindon declined to comment and said the store keeps its clients' information confidential.

If her husband successfully runs for president, Mrs Bush would be the third Mrs Bush in the White House - but she would also be the first Hispanic first lady, and only the second first lady born outside of the United States.

She has kept herself out of the limelight since he announced his plan to run, as she has throughout his political career.

...and Michelle went shopping wearing $500 sneakers . I think Columba Bush's money is better spent . The 1st Lady's vacations alone have cost the US taxpayers a pretty penny .

If I were the Dems I'd be more concerned of the optics of Evita Clinton's 6 figure speaking fees from foreign contributors.

In 1999 she was fined for misrepresenting the amount of clothing and jewelry she had bought while on a shopping trip in Paris by federal customs officials.

Not exactly the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

She had been to Paris to visit with deposed Mexican President Carlos Salinas,a old Bush Crime Family buddy she and JEB used to vacation with on his estates in Mexico before the warrant went out to arrest him for being part of the Mexican drug cartel, and he and his brother fled to Europe with a significant chuck of the Mexican banks liquid assets.

She picked up the jewelry while in Paris, and he probably gave it to her to buy favors since her husband was still the governor of Fla, her father in law was a ex-US President, and her brother in law was running for President, and the whole damn Bush Crime Family had political connections that could keep him alive and living in comfort if he paid the right bribes.

She got caught and arrested while trying to smuggle the jewelry as well as some furs she picked up through customs without paying customs duty on them.

It was immediately decided she could pay a small fine and be on her way,but somehow the press found out about it and reported on it.

HEY! Since she seems to be even more qualified than Bubbette!,maybe JEB can make her Sec of State if he wins? After all,she does have experience negotiating with foreign heads of state and various other criminals? Not to mention her children, all 3 of whom have arrest records.

Maybe she could even run for the WH herself as the first female Her-Panic criminal president in 2024?

Why is democracy held in such high esteem when it’s the enemy of the minority and makes all rights relative to the dictates of the majority? (Ron Paul,2012)

Those who serve the masters of our oligarchy, as politicians in high office, are rewarded very well for selling out the Republic.

My concern here is with the loans.

As long as there is full disclosure on the terms and repayment schedule, fine.

But if the loans are just thinly disguised bribes, then it matters to me.

Hey, I just bought a Casio Digital W-96H-2A with a battery
that supposedly will last for 10 years.
Cost $22.63 on Amazon. I expect to either lose or break
the the cheap thing in ten years.

But for now I have a watch that works - for a decade - what the
heck? Stainless steel and black plastic. Water resistant
to 50 meters depth - so if someone throws me off of a
ship, my watch will still work as I lie on the bottom of
the ocean floor for about a decade. Cool!

Can you ask any more for $22.63?

Nice and practical.

Does it have a 24hr option of time? You know the European way of time or military way?

And his price is enough to keep her in enough jewelry so as to allow him to do as he will behind her back, without her making a scene.

Has an option for it in the settings - but I've never used it.
So I suppose it does. Be aware that the thing was made
in China. (As if anything isn't...)

And it appears to have an AM/PM indicator for 'normal'
people as well - LOL!

Then why is she taking out loans?

Ninety thousand over fourteen years isn't a lot to borrow but I'd still like to know if she paid off the loans.

One of the great kick back schemes is for a politician to take out a loan, the bank or a 'friend' then pay it back.

Okay guys - one more thing you should know about
this Casio watch. It's got a plastic 'Buckle'
type wristband. Which should be no problem
for 'normal' people you have the full use of
their right hand (so they can fasten it on their
left) - which I don't, nor can't.

Bottom line - one hand needs to work - just wear
the thing on you opposite wrist.

Should be common sense - but I just thought I'd
mention it.

EDIT

And this Casio has a weird attachment of the band to the watch - so the idea
of getting an elastic band to replace the 'buckle' type band has not yet
born fruit. Is anything easy?

I'm surprised you haven't been chastised by the "know it all's" for doing so, they must be slipping.
