Las Vegas police Thursday afternoon arrested a 19-year-old suspect in the road-rage killing of a 44-year-old mother of four last week. Erich Milton Nowsch Jr., was taken into custody shortly before 1 p.m. after a two-hour standoff at his mother's house, a block from where Tammy Meyers was shot in the head outside her home Feb. 12. She died on Valentine's Day after being taken off life support . Meyers knew the teen, whom she had frequently counseled, her husband said. Nowsch faces charges of murder, attempted murder and discharging a firearm in a vehicle. Police said Nowsch had been under surveillance. A Las Vegas SWAT unit surrounded his mother's home after she contacted police. A nearby junior high school was locked down until he was in custody. Meyers' husband, Robert, became emotional as he attempted to get closer to the house as officers tried to coax the suspect out. He then shouted at a camera crew, "There's the (expletive) who killed my wife. And a block away!" "Are you all happy? You made my wife look like an animal," he told reporters. "There's the animal, a block away!" Meyers was shot after returning from giving her 15-year-old daughter a late- night driving lesson at a nearby school parking lot. Meyers knew Nowsch, which is how she identified the road-rage suspect, Robert Meyers told reporters later Tuesday afternoon. She gave him money and "tried to teach him how to be a man," the Associated Press reported. KLAS-TV said Tammy Meyers "had spent countless hours consoling the teen." Meyers' daughter told police that while her mother was driving her home, a man in a silver car sped up and drove alongside them, the Las Vegas Sun reported. The daughter said she then reached over and honked the horn. The driver stopped in front of them, got out, and angrily approached their vehicle. Police said that after Meyers dropped her daughter off at home, she had her daughter wake her 22-year-old son, Brandon, who grabbed a 9mm pistol. He and his mother then went looking for the suspect. They spotted the suspect's vehicle and followed it before returning home, followed by the suspect. Family members said that three people were in the car, and that one fired several shots. Her returned fire, and Meyers, who was standing in the driveway, was hit during the exchange. "I did what I had to do to protect my family," Brandon Meyers said afterward. "Everyone can think what they have to think. I did it for a reason. And I'd do it for anyone I love." No other charges have been filed so far. "We still have a lot of investigative work to do," Las Vegas police Capt. Chris Tomaino said.

What you did was give the defendant a defense. By taking off after them and capping off a few rounds of your own... he now can claim self defense, and just one sorry sap in the jury needs to believe it.
Why wouldn't the jury believe it,when it is the truth? You follow ME home or come to MY home and start busting caps at me,don't be surprised when bullets start coming towards you.
The jury might believe everything the DA puts forth.... or they might believe the gun fight was brought to the defendant. Don't be surprised if this little baggy pant wearing turd bag gets a light sentence or found not guilty.
Even white trash "little baggy pant wearing turd bags" have a right to defend themselves when somebody comes looking for them with guns and threatens their life. IMHO,regardless of who did what on the road,the total blame for the shooting death fits right into the empty bullet hole in her empty head. There would have been no shooting if she hadn't gone home and told her son to get his gun and come with her. When she did that the dingbat bitch not only put her life at risk,she also put the life of her son at risk. She went looking for it,she asked for it,and she got it.

First they report they were victims of road rage by a tall blonde stranger they have the police artist draw a sketch of,then it turns out they have know the guy for years,the mother identified him and went home,let her daughter off,and picked up her son with his gun to go get "justice/revenge". I'm not a betting man,but if I were,I would almost be willing to bet that when the dust settles it will be revealed that the dead mother and her family were meth dealers,wannabe thugboy was one of their distributors that owed them money,and mama's boy with the gun was the family enforcer. IMHO,they made this whole story up once the police started getting involved to try to hide what they were doing. There can be no question they are hiding something.
A hurdle for the DA, no doubt. Its good to be retired. I don't have to sift through the crime scene, draft all that legal paperwork, testify or hold my breath that the case gets a conviction. I simply get to watch it on TV... and laugh at my dysfuntional peers.
I said there is more to the story, it is starting to come out in bits and pieces and keeps getting further away from the original story. The teenage neighbor arrested in what has been described as the road- rage slaying of a Las Vegas mother boasted about the shooting and told friends that he emptied several clips from his semi-automatic handgun during the gunbattle, according to a police report released Friday. The documents depict a fierce shootout last week involving 19-year-old Erich Milton Nowsch Jr., victim Tammy Meyers and her 22-year-old son. Police said Nowsch bragged of firing more than 22 shots at them that night — first, a few blocks from their home, then in the cul-de-sac outside their house. According to investigators, Nowsch portrayed the Meyers family as the aggressors, saying he saw someone in their car waving a gun out the window at him. "Got those kids. They were after me, and I got them," he was quoted as telling friends. Nowsch remained jailed Friday on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and firing a gun from a vehicle. It was not clear if he had a lawyer. Authorities continued to search for a second suspect, apparently the driver of the car in which Nowsch was said to be riding. The case has been marked by conflicting and incomplete accounts from police and the Meyers family, giving rise to suspicions that it was not necessarily the random road-rage shooting it appeared to be at first. "This has all the earmarks of something that is not road rage," said Los Angeles defense attorney Mark Geragos, who is not involved in the case. "There is a whole lot more to this that we just don't know." According to authorities, Meyers, 44, was out with her 15-year-old daughter on the night of Feb. 12, giving her driving lessons, when a car sped past them. The daughter honked, and the vehicle stopped, police said. Someone got out and warned Meyers: "I'm gonna come back for you and your daughter," according to the police report. Police said the mother then sped home, dropped off her daughter and roused her son, Brandon, from bed. Brandon wanted to call 911, but his mother told him to get in the car or she was going to go looking for the suspects alone, so he grabbed his 9 mm handgun and went along, police said. The two found the vehicle and began following it when a passenger in the car opened fire on them, according to the report. Brandon Meyers told police that he and his mother fled back to their home, but the other car reappeared, and the shooting resumed. He said he fired three shots back. According to the report, Nowsch told friends the gun battle began after he saw someone in a green car in a school parking lot waving a gun at him. He said he opened fire from the passenger seat with a .45-caliber handgun, then followed the vehicle into a cul-de-sac, reloaded and fired 22 more shots outside the Meyers home, according to the report. It wasn't immediately clear how authorities came to suspect Nowsch in the shooting, but the police report said he was questioned five days later while being held in juvenile custody on unrelated charges. It turns out he and the Meyerses were neighbors who lived a block apart. Robert Meyers, the victim's husband, said his wife had taken a motherly interest in Nowsch following the suicide of his father five years ago, giving him food and money and telling him to "pull his pants up and be a man." Neighbor Melissa Mour said she talked with Nowsch the day after the shooting and asked him about the screeching tires and gunfire she heard the night before. "He was like, 'Whoever did this is going to pay for it. I've known that family a long time,'" Mour said. "The way he spoke that day, it was like he liked them. It was like he was upset at whoever did it."
