The Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers are the betting favorites to be the best team during the regular season this year according to sportsbook Bovada.lv. With one week to go before players start reporting to Spring Training, the Nationals and Dodgers have over/under win totals of 92.5, four games ahead of the next best teams, the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Angels (88.5 wins). The Boston Red Sox are expected to be the most improved team this year, with an over/under win total of 85.5, 14.5 wins better than their 2014 record (71-91). Meanwhile, the Baltimore Orioles are expected to take the biggest step backwards, with an expected win total of 82.5, a drop of 13.5 wins from their 2014 record (96-66).

I guess their experts missed all the good moves the SD Padres made this year. Other factors include the exodus of high profile AL starting pitching going to the NL due to free agency and trades. Which I believe is the grand scheme of Jon Daniels sending his associate over to SD to be their GM:) A little CT there for Siggy. But baseball is one of those sports hard to predict. The season is long, injuries happen, kids get called up and either perform or bust. Good trades are made etc. The one factor that does play in are innings pitched by starters throughout the year. If you get a lot of good quality innings from your starters in the MLB, the rest of the team can pick up any other slack nicely. That and a deep bench reaching back to your farm system. The above is why the ST Louis Cardinals are always in the hunt.

I was a White Sox fan as a youngster, for whatever reasons. I gave up on MLB after that last strike in 1993(?). I did go to a Louisville Bats (minor league) game about 1.5 years ago for old time's sake. I'm sticking with horse racing these days.
Moves is one thing, playing as a team is something else.

I can see the Rangers as being a playoff team if a couple of things happen. Leonys Martin becomes an effective leadoff hitter, Moreland becomes what his potential is, Fielder gets his schitt together and at least Perez or Harrison gets back into the starting rotation. They also have to stay healthy. This could be their potential starting rotation after ALL STAR break, Darvish, Holland, Gallardo, Perez, Lewis/Holland. Not too shabby if it works out.
