On Sunday night, White House press secretary Josh Earnest issued a statement condemning the actions of Islamic State Militants after they released a video of the beheading of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians.

The statement from the White House described the victims as “innocents” and “citizens,” but made no mention of the victims’ faith.

“The United States condemns the despicable and cowardly murder of twenty-one Egyptian citizens in Libya by ISIL-affiliated terrorists,” the statement read, offering condolence to the victims families.

The ISIS video was directly targeted at Christians, citing their faith as the reason for their death.

A caption in the video described the victims as “the people of the cross, followers of the hostile Egyptian church.”

“Safety for you crusaders is something you can only wish for,” one of the militants said in the video, as he stood with a knife in his hand. The video was titled “A Message Signed With Blood to the Nation of the Cross.”

Earnest condemned the actions as a “despicable and cowardly murder” and a “heinous act.”

“ISIL’s barbarity knows no bounds,” he reminded the world. “It is unconstrained by faith, sect, or ethnicity.”

British Prime Minister David Cameron specifically identified the victims as Christians, in a statement condemning the murders.

“I am appalled by the murder of Christians in Libya, a simply barbaric and inhumane act. My thoughts are with the families of those killed and the UK stands united with the Egyptian people during this period of mourning,” he said.

Pope Francis also strongly condemned the murders of the Coptic Christians on Monday.

“Their only words were: ‘Jesus, help me!’ They were killed simply for the fact that they were Christians,” he said. “The blood of our Christian brothers and sisters is a testimony which cries out be heard. It makes no difference whether they be Catholics, Orthodox, Copts or Protestants. They are Christians!”

I Know God has a plan for each of us, Obama included, but I wonder if praying for this abomination to be tarred and feathered, while I can still watch, would be wrong of me?

He has a poison pen, dripping in blood, he takes pleasure in using for the wholesale slaughter of millions of innocent, helpless unborn babies, and millions more human beings around he world he stubbornly refuses to help.

My heart cries and grieves for them, the angels weeping in heaven must be a sight to behold. I believe if God were not holding them back, the worst nightmares of evil men and women would look like a joke as compared to what His angels would do to them.

We see this evil unfolding before us, and yet, there hasen't been a serious attempt of actually stopping this madman. jmho

As Gary pointed out to me, scripture says to pray for our enemies. It takes me awhile to work thru the anger to get to a place where I can do that. Today I'm wondering if there is a place for cursing this great evil. I'm thinking along the lines of binding the spirit that manifests in those leaders.

Otoh, "vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord."

It would make for an interesting discussion on the subject.

Today I'm wondering if there is a place for cursing this great evil. I'm thinking along the lines of binding the spirit that manifests in those leaders.

Indeed an interesting subject and an obvious emotional conundrum for many Christians.

Chuck Baldwin addressed this issue head on in a column some years ago, here:

"...[W]hat if our President decided to resurrect the old monarchal custom of Jus Primae Noctis (Law of First Night)? That was the old medieval custom when the king claimed the right to sleep with a subject's bride on the first night of their marriage. Would our sincere Christian brethren sheepishly say, 'Romans Chapter 13 says we must submit to the government'? I think not. And would any of us respect any man who would submit to such a law?...

Observe that Romans Chapter 13 clearly limits the authority of civil government by strictly defining its purpose: 'For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil . . . For he is the minister of God to thee for good . . . for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.'

Notice that civil government must not be a 'terror to good works.' It has no power or authority to terrorize good works or good people. God never gave it that authority. And any government that oversteps that divine boundary has no divine authority or protection.

Civil government is a 'minister of God to thee for good.' It is a not a minister of God for evil. Civil magistrates have a divine duty to "execute wrath upon him that doeth evil." They have no authority to execute wrath upon him that doeth good...."

Dovetailing with Baldwin's interpretation of Romans 13 regarding "submission to authoritries" is a column, titled, 'Bible Inspired America’s Founding Documents'

excerpt:

"The destruction of America's founding principles can be directly traced to the country's willful rejection of the Bible as our source of divine authority. America has done more than expel God and the Bible from our schools; it has expelled God and the Bible from politics, commerce, and even our very way of life. Should it be any wonder, then, that our founding documents are also being expunged? After all, America's founding documents are themselves predicated upon God and the Bible.

The Declaration of Independence states, '[Men] are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.' Likewise, the Second Amendment has Biblical foundation. Our Lord said in Luke 11:21, "When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace." In Luke 22:35, 36 He said, "He that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one."

Other articles contained in the Bill of Rights also have Biblical basis. For example, the Fourth Amendment comes from Deuteronomy 24:10, 11. The Eighth Amendment originates in Deuteronomy 15: 2, 3. Again, these principles are "self evident" truths which come from "the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God."

Even America's constitutional form of government consisting of three co-equal branches, legislative, executive and judicial is taken directly from Isaiah 33:22.
