I need an instrument cluster for a 1990 dodge d250 five speed diesel. Anyone have any idea where I can get one? The odometer and now the fuel gauge are no longer working.

I am in the Albuquerque, NM area but will be leaving for Maine April first.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I did a few searches at online parts houses and eBay. Nothing.

You might try doing a direct search using only the part number on Google. Otherwise there are local junkyards. You could try calling some around New Mexico.

You already know that many parts get hard to find after 20 years.

I looked and only saw you inquiry to Cummings and LF.

TC has it right. If you have the parts numbers any local junk yard in Albuquerque or parts store should be able to help.

I looked at RockAuto but only found light bulbs, like eBay or the others.

eBay did have an instrument cluster for Dodge '81-'89 D250 pickups but apparently Dodge changed it in the 1990 models.

Isn't there a computer network for junkyard parts out there? Seems there was one in Fairfield CA but they (like every business) left California for Texas.

Start calling auto dismantlers around Texas since you're heading east. Call the tow companies and they might have some leads for you to call.

Here is a link to how to fix Odometer on a 90-92 Dodge Ram: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVHSufDAzRo .
Here is a link to the gear(s) you may need: http://www.odometergears.com/products/Chrysler-Dodge/All/5

Someone posted on dieselbombers.com that his fuel gauge doesn’t work. He tried a different gauge and that did not work.
Your problem may not be the fuel gauge, it may be in the wiring or the sending unit.

You can find help on the Cummings Forum.

You can find parts from The Parts Geek.

Thank you, I am going to try every suggestion, some I have already tried, but it looks as if I am going to have to take the instrument cluster apart and see about fixing it, maybe it will be a loose wire at the fuel tank, that would be nice.

I really thank you all.

Bob

I did a few searches at online parts houses and eBay. Nothing.

You might try doing a direct search using only the part number on Google.

If you have the part number you can also try using it on a search of amazon. I used the original parts numbers as the keywords on an amazon search for wheel cylinders for my 39 IHC pu,and found them new for $4.50 each. The cheapest I had found them anywhere else was 90 bucks each for NOS stuff that had been sitting on a shelf for 50 years and needing to be rebuilt before use.

If that doesn't work, try using "New Mexico junkyards" and "New Mexico truck parts" as the keywords for a web search?

A K A Stone,I just tried to create a "Gear Heads" ping list and once again ended up with a new ping list with no title that I can't delete, and this is keeping me from creating any more ping lists.

Same problem as before.

Hmm... As I expected, we didn't fix the whole problem with pinglist #0. There's still some little thing messing it up. Anyway, more data on the problem is a Good Thing.

Thanks Pete, I have tried it with no results, other than one than can rebuild it for 200 bucks.

Hi Bob, I'm no expert, but if you post the part number here it seems some of your friends will assist you in the search for it.

Now that's a good idea, but my son, Danny, just gave me his 2004 Ford Pickup to use to go back to Maine with, so I'm going to sell the Dodge. While it needs work and has a ton of miles, about 500,000 or so, it is a 12 valve Cummings diesel with the Banks Inter-cooler. It is a bear of a work truck, just has a bunch of little idiosyncrasies.

Danny's truck has Air Conditioning, a rear seat, heated seats, and all the goodies, my wife loves it. No where near the power of the Dogge and the fuel mileage is about 2/3ds the diesel, but oh what comfort. AND the radio works.

other than one than can rebuild it for 200 bucks.

If he has a good reputation and guarantees his work,200 bucks is a bargain.

Otherwise you will probably end up buying a used one for 100-125 bucks,do all the work to take yours out, install this one,and pay somebody to have it programmed to "talk" to your truck computer, and find it it's as bad as the one you took out.

BTW,200 bucks for diesel truck parts is nothing these days. If the guy has a good rep and guarantees his work,I'd consider having him rebuild the one in your truck now if that will save you from having to spend even more money to have a new/rebuilt one programmed.

Replacement parts for diesel trucks are insanely expensive. I have a 06 GMC 2500HD with the LBZ 365HP 665 ft lb torque engine and 6 speed Allision transmission, and it costs over 5 grand to get the trans rebuilt. Replacing a water pump costs a grand at a dealership. They have to practically pull the front clip off to do it.

On the other hand,if you need something to pull a load, there are no other alternatives. I came back from North Dakota 2 summers ago weighing right at 19,500 lbs, with the cruise control set at 75,and just let her eat. It was hard to tell I was even pulling anything.

The Dodge is sold, got 650 for it cash.

Danny's truck has Air Conditioning,

I hope the heater works once you get near these northern parts.
