Police used a Taser to subdue a 26-year-old River Falls man who allegedly interfered with a traffic stop on Carmichael Road in Hudson Wednesday night, Feb. 4.
According to Hudson Police Chief Marty Jensen, Aaron J. Meulemans said he was “cop blocking” when he pulled over in front of the car of a driver who had been stopped for speeding.
Meulemans reportedly told patrol officer Kate Potter to go away when she walked up to his vehicle and asked him what he was doing.
He then said he was “cop blocking,” according to Jensen.
Meulemans reportedly refused to leave the scene, became agitated and got out of his car, leading Potter to call for backup.
Jensen said Meulemans resisted the officers when he was told he was under arrest.
He was arrested for two counts of obstructing and resisting an officer, and one count of disorderly conduct.
“We had to Taze him and forcibly take him into custody,” Jensen said.
The police chief indicated that he had since learned about a Cop Block website on the internet.
The website says it is “a decentralized project supported by a diverse group of individuals united by their shared goal of police accountability.”
Meulemans didn’t know the driver who had been stopped for speeding, according to Jensen.
Formal charges against him are pending.
The incident happened on Carmichael Road near the vacant St. Croix Meadows dog track at about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday.
