Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, a potential 2016 Republican presidential candidate, said Sunday he is open to sending U.S. troops to the Middle East to defeat Islamic State fighters -- a bold foreign policy statement in contrast with the Obama administration’s position. Walker told ABC’s “This Week” that he wouldn’t rule out sending troops, as Islamic State appears to grow and strengthen despite U.S.-led efforts to destroy the radical Islamic group. “I wouldn't rule out anything,” Walker said. “When you have the lives of Americans at stake ... we have to be prepared to do things that don't allow those measures, those attacks, those abuses to come to our shores." In a wide-ranging interview in which Walker also made a case for a potential 2016 run, he suggested an Islamic State attack on U.S. soil is "a matter of when .. not if." And he suggested that the administration, which has U.S. troops helping to train government-backed forces in Iraq, is not doing enough. Secretary of State John Kerry and other top U.S. officials said last week that coalition forces have launched 2,000 airstrikes in Iraq and Syria that have killed Islamic State leaders and thousands of its fighters. However, Walker suggested the U.S. must do more. “We must take the fight to ISIS and other radical Islamic groups,” he told ABC. The administration is reluctant to send troops to the Middle East to fight the militant group, considering the move would be unpopular among Americans, after recent U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Walker leads all potential GOP candidates, according to a Bloomberg Politics/ Des Moines Register Iowa Poll released this weekend. He has 15 percent of the vote, with Kentucky GOP Sen. Rand Paul in second with 14 percent, following Walker's rousing speech last weekend at the Iowa Freedom Summit. “You can make all of the speeches you want,” Walker also told ABC. “But people want new, fresh leadership.” He also suggested that he or perhaps Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, another potential 2016 Republican presidential candidate, could beat presumptive Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton because they each are a “name for the future.” He suggested the Clinton name is now synonymous with 20th century ideas and Washington, top-down government. "Former Secretary of State Clinton embodies all the things that we think of Washington," Walker said. "She lives here, she's worked here, she's been part of the Washington structure for years, not just as a Democrat, but across the spectrum." Walker has won three elections in the past four years, but Wisconsin has not voted for a Republican president in the past three decades. On the issue of immigration, Walker said Sunday he opposed “amnesty” for people who have entered the U.S. illegally, but appeared to suggest that deporting the millions now in this country is not a practical solution. Walker was in Washington this weekend meeting with potential campaign aides and donors. And last week, he announced the formation of a political nonprofit group ahead of a potential White House bid.

Walker may be correcct in that effort may prove to be an impossible task. However, we can start by sending the latest illegal immigrants back home ASAP and work forward from there. A survey shows that most voters want this to happen.
Every task becomes impossible if it is not approached with serious intent.

Walker said “I think when you have the lives of Americans at stake and our freedom loving allies anywhere in the world, we have to be prepared to do things that don’t allow those measures, those attacks, those abuses to come to our shores.” This is the Bush Doctrine, which is for the U.S. to attack threats that it perceives even before they are actual threats, that is, to attack threats of threats.
I had previously liked Walker quite a bit and thought he'd go straight moderate, walking a fine line between realist and neocon. I thought it would be a shrewd political move for the primaries and for the general election against the bloodthirsty and ineffectual Hitlery. Apparently, Walker's going to go full neo-con instead. He lost a lot of ground with me. And his deliberately vague (or inept) warmongering talk doesn't help a bit.

Well, it seems pretty early. You could just wait to see if Rand runs a credible campaign. I'm starting to think he doesn't have enough fight in him or a good enough campaign staff to really carry the fight to the neocons and all their puppet candidates. But I still hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Well, I am sure that whoever gets the GOP nomination will be a CFR lackey puppet. I would love to be pleasantly surprised, but would bet against that! Rand might be a real good guy, but he is not THE GUY to get the GOP nomination. If he were to get it, it would mean he has sold out! So I am confident I will be voting 3rd Party!

Whatever. You must realize by now that you've joined a herd of cats and that no candidate you favor who could ever actually win the nomination could ever get your vote. You sound like a habitual protest voter. A contrarian. Too bad there are so many libertarian types who don't believe any victory is possible. There really is no reason for you to vote other than to thumb your nose at the two parties. They aren't much impressed by your protest vote.
Well, I have no illusion that I will "win". Voters like yourself will vote for the lessor of two evils so that you can say that "you voted for the winner". But in the end, you will still have voted for evil. That kind of attitude is why the Republican Party is a huge pile of sh*t that it is. Remember, they gave Obama everything he wanted on the Crmonbus Bill. Aren't you real proud? What is the point of "winning" if your principles go down the drain? I, and others like me will not sell out our principles. On election night, I will go to sleep with a clean conscience. Will you?

I don't always vote. And I have voted third party. I just never decide two years out that I have no choices at all. Admittedly, I was soft on Walker but his hawkishness and idiotic Bush Doctrine speechifying threw some very real cold water on that idea. We still might see Rand Paul run a strong and credible campaign. Admittedly, I am less impressed with his retail political skills over the last year. He needs to decide if he's really going to take on the Beltway establishment in both parties. I think it is entirely possible for him to run as the outsider and against them and their disastrous records with the economy, employment, illegals, foreign policy disasters across the Mideast, etc. It's a fat rich target. I'm not sure Rand has the guts and savvy to go the distance, to really throw down on them and throw their miserable record in their faces. It would take a tremendous force of personality and some charisma to pull it off, like Reagan had or a little more so. I begin to doubt Rand has it or can find it.
I don't care if you gay-marry him. At least you're not sharing your usual suicidal depression and general gloom.
