Reuters) - A Kansas man was sentenced to nearly three years in prison on Friday for letting his 10- month-old foster daughter die in a hot car while he smoked marijuana and watched television.

Seth Jackson, 29, who pled guilty in November to one count of involuntary manslaughter, was sentenced to 32 months in prison, a Sedgwick County District Court official said. He had originally been charged with murder.

Police said he left the baby in a vehicle in Wichita, Kansas, for several hours on July 24 as temperatures in the city hovered around 90 degrees.

Jackson had picked up marijuana from a dealer and then returned home. He started using the drug without taking the girl out of the car, prosecutors said.

Jackson told police he forgot the girl was in the car until he saw something on TV that reminded him of her. He rushed to the car, but she was dead, police said.

Reminds me of a case I worked on.

This low life welfare P. O. S. had a blast getting drunk and high at the neighbors trailer one evening while his two year old slept into the late hours. When he decided to collect his daughter and walk home at 0300 hrs... he dropped his sleeping daughter on her head while carrying her drunk and high. Then put her to bed with a head injury that would kill her by morning.

I put the scumbag away for 4 years. A year longer than this. Both sentences are garbage.

Even if you were the detective in charge on the case, wouldn't it be a little more accurate, and less self aggrandizing, to credit the prosecution a bit?

They did prosecute the case, obviously.

I had to supply all the facts, put it all together and sit through an autopsy of that beautiful little innocent girl.... I'd have traded jobs with thevDA in a heartbeat.

Based on the facts as stated, I agree completely! Someone placed very low value on innocent children! It is not helpful now, but come Judgement Day, God will administer proper justice on these two Aholes!

Using that stuff causes the awareness and heirarchy of relative importance of other things and responsibilities to be dissociated. That's why people use it.

It's "Hey man, what's happening?" Then it's "Oh Shit! That's what's happening."

"Hey man, what's happening?" and "Oh Shit! That's what's happened." become a habitual way of life.

32 months for killing a baby. This is what has become of our throw away society.

Where's Holder and the DoJ with charges the baby's civil rights were violated?

I agree. It's the part of the criminal justice system that isn't working... the punishment phase. There is no ramifications or reasons not to break the law.

The FACTS are that this idiot is responsible for that little girl dying, and no one else. Certainly not any drug he used,be it alcohol or pot.

Not necessary. If impairment wasn't partially responsible, then he must have intentionally murdered the child. Either way, he is scum.

It's not. Impairment didn't track him down and force him to get high. That was HIS choice.

On that we agree. IMHO,32 years in prison would be more appropriate than 32 months.

He's quilty of assumption of risk for using it when he had other serious responsibilities. But his mind was too far gone from previous use to consider it. It's a multi-step process.

Once they start using that stuff, it obtains an importance in their lives that displaces importance of other elements of life which should be important.
