Title: School district doesn't want pro-'gay' club; ACLU reacts

The ACLU is going after a Mississippi school district that's requiring students to obtain parental permission before joining a club that advocates for homosexual rights.

Students in several Mississippi school districts have looked to organize Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) clubs recently. One of the latest is in Brandon, where last week Rankin County Schools superintendent Lynn Weathersby stated the district "does not promote discussion of sexuality" among students at school and that it's "a matter the parents need to discuss with their child or children at home in a private setting."

But the ACLU says Rankin County schools would be violating federal civil rights laws by requiring parental permission for students to join a proposed Gay-Straight Alliance club.

Peter Sprigg of the Family Research Council explains to OneNewsNow that parental permission is required for all kinds of school activities, such as field trips and participation in sports. "I would think [for] anything that's extra-curricular that's outside of the regular prescribed curriculum of the school, it would be legitimate to require parental consent for that," he adds

Mississippi – along with two other Southern states (Alabama and Arkansas) – is the focus of a concentrated pro-LGBT campaign launched last year by Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest LGBT activist organization. In concert with that, HRC's "All God's Children" campaign will be spending more than $8 million over the next three years to convince Southerners that homosexuality is compatible with Christianity.

At some point, Christians in America will have to decide how much they want to participate in Big Gov.

It is the public schools and federal entitlement programs that are the means by which outsiders can inject their agenda into the local schools.

The only real answer is to give parents education vouchers and privatize public schools completely.

Thought you might find this interesting.

Also makes you wonder where the HRC gets all that money? Taxpayers maybe?

An interesting proposal. Competition is always good.

In the late 19th century, when faced with the first volley liberalism within Main Line Protestant and Evangelical churches we saw the following:

HOME Theological liberalism

Theological liberalism, sometimes known as Protestant Liberalism, is a theological movement rooted in the early 19th century German Enlightenment, notably in the philosophy of Immanuel Kant and the religious views of Friedrich Schleiermacher. It is an attempt to incorporate modern thinking and developments, especially in the sciences, into the Christian faith. Liberalism tends to emphasize ethics over doctrine and experience over Scriptural authority. While essentially a 19th century movement, theological liberalism came to dominate the American mainline churches in the early 20th century. Liberal Christian scholars embraced and encouraged the higher biblical criticism of modern Biblical scholarship.

Protestant liberal thought in its most traditional incarnations emphasized the universal Fatherhood of God, the brotherhood of man, the infinite value of the human soul, the example of Jesus, and the establishment of the moral-ethical Kingdom of God on Earth. It has often been relativistic, pluralistic, and non- doctrinal.

Liberalism birthed other movements with varying emphases. Among these movements have been the Social Gospel, theological Feminism, Liberation theology, Process theology, and the Jesus Seminar. One product of these movements is the heretical Myth of Christian Origins which denies the divinity of Christ and the authority of scripture.

Reactions to theological liberalism

Various movements in Christianity resulted as reactions to liberal influence. Most of these groups attempted to reclaim and affirm what they viewed as traditional Christian orthodoxy. Reactions against liberalism have included:

Evangelicalism, a conservative renewal movement of the 18th and 19th centuries, re-affirmed in the mid 20th century as separate from today's more narrowly defined "fundamentalism."

Fundamentalism, an early 20th century movement within Evangelicalism in reaction to Liberalism and Modernism, has become more narrowly associated with dispensational theology and social separatism.

Neo-Orthodoxy, an early-to-mid 20th century movement led primarily by Karl Barth and Emil Brunner which made use of existentialism and emphasized the transcendence of God and the sinfulness of humankind. Pentecostalism, an early 20th century movement which reacted against what some perceived as the stale worship and devotional life among churches dominated by liberalism.

Neo-Wesleyanism, a mid-late 20th century movement in Methodism dominated by Albert C. Outler which developed authoritative editions of the works of John Wesley in an attempt to reclaim pure Wesleyan thought. Post-Liberalism, also called narrative theology, a late 20th century movement led initially by George Lindbeck which emphasizes the authority of the Biblical narrative as opposed to its historical veracity or inerrancy.

So two reactions one which you point out. Some thought separatism was the way to go and others to keep engaging society in public as the apostles publicly proclaimed the Gospel.

Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest LGBT activist organization...will be spending more than $8 million over the next three years to convince Southerners that homosexuality is compatible with Christianity.

That $8 million will pay for quite a bit of grinding coercion, lies, and social media shaming. There'll be some casualties, but then again, there may be some unintended consequences of unvented blowback.

Homosexuality's not even compatible with nature -- much less Christianity. Christianity: The only warriors left between freedom and secular humanism's fascism.

Yup. The public school monopoly of captive audiences during the 5-18 development ages make the best Stockholm Syndrome victims...er I mean students.

Of vouchers and privitization of education -- "Ah have a dream. Where the subversive agenda of Humanist-Commie public schools are the exception, and the privitization of schools and real educationis the rule."

Why doesn't the free market rule in this case? Oh, that's right: A corrupt goobermint doesn't like competition.

What do these movements all have in common? Rejection of moral absolutes, destabilizing the status quo, fomenting division, victimhood, and accusations of oppression (masked behind the facade of "equality" and any such actual "theology" whatsoever beside self-deification.)

But these are not static adults.

Should Christians and conservatives allow the Lefty feds to educate and indoctrinate their children?

Keep in mind that they are outbreeding the libs across the board. The libs can only prevail by co-opting many kids from traditional families and reprogramming them to support Left orthodoxy. Which is exactly how we have reached the point we are at.

The public schools are nothing but a vehicle for brainwashing young people. To intimidate young Christians and to coerce the non-affiliated onto the Left's plantation.

Those are very good points. Breaking the school union hold on pols is a tough nut to crack.

So yeah, the private opt out is a good focus item.

The biggest mistake was made when the Southern Baptist Convention refused to endorse homeschooling as recommended policy, about 15 years back.

Think of all that might have been different if all those kids over the last 15 years were outside the indoctrination system.

Your other point has merit as observed. The procreation part. Libs don't have kids or not many. The old adage of looking at a large family and saying "they must be Catholic" is not accurate today. Evangelicals are having large families these days. Seems both conservative main lines, Baptists and Evangelicals have embraced many of the formerly Catholic only views on birth control.

The SBC was also slow to draw on abortion. I don't think they changed their official views of life starting at conception until about 99-2000.

The problem with having a reactionary stance, essentially a static defense. You can be outmaneuvered by more nimble opponents employing new tactics (courts, Lefty social causes, Lefty media).
