#14. To: Fred Mertz, TheFireBert, TooConservative, Pinguinite, A K A Stone (#12)

Thanks, Fred, I made the change you suggested.

The reason I added the information block was to follow a suggestion by another member. There was some confusion that I was in agreement with an article I posted. It took a few unnecessary exchanges for him to understand that I was not. He made a great suggestion to me so that would not happen in the future.

TheFireBert: Since you left out the main part of the article which gets to the conclusion, the beginning looks misleading as a call for Christians to abandon their faith to a grey, undefined, and altogether moral- less world.

TheFireBert: Since you left out the main part of the article which gets to the conclusion, the beginning looks misleading as a call for Christians to abandon their faith to a grey, undefined, and altogether moral- less world.

TheFireBert: Then again, what other purpose would a progressive-demon serve, amirite?!?

Gatlin: Before you made any assumption, you should ask me:
     1. Why did you only post the first part of the blog article?
     2. Did you do this to intentionally make it look “misleading as a call for Christians to abandon their faith to a grey, undefined, and altogether moral-less world?”

Gatlin: Had you asked: I would have answered: “No”....to both questions.

TheFireBert: Then I would have informed you that is the article posting style I use to make sure I never inadvertently post a fully copyrighted article. I present the lead in and link to the remainder.

TheFireBert: I agree with the reasoning above, but would insist on adding your own dialog in the poster's comments in the future to ensure that the amount of content, or lack thereof, is not misleading. [Boldness Added]

I approached Stone on his suggestion thread with the following suggestion:

Gatlin: When someone clicks on “Post Comment” on a new thread, the default name appearing in the “To” block should be “Author” and not the posted “by” person.

Gatlin: An individual may post an article because they agree with it, disagree with it, find it to be newsworthy or just interesting.

Gatlin: The posting itself should be “considered for what it’s worth” and/or “do with it what you will” with no assumptions made.

Gatlin:The assumption is made far too often that someone posts something because they agree with it, and then some members attack the poster of the article and call on him/her to defend it. [Boldness Added]

Gatlin: How about changing the default name?

Stone: … its hardcoded in and it can't be changed as far as I know.

Stone: I also don't want to bug neil to much about doing stuff.

Since Stone could not see the situation that continually occurs as a problem and decided no action was necessary, I then resorted to the suggestion from TheFirbert and added the information block to the bottom of each thread I now post.

Additional information:

I posted recently posted four articles in which the authors stated things they felt wrong with Christianity. I was immediately attacked for being "anti-Christian."

Today I posted four articles in which the authors stated things the felt fight with Christianity. Not of the posters who attacked me for the other postings have come forward and congratulated me for being "pro-Christian."

I see this often where posters must continually distance themselves from articles the neither support nor endorse and merely post them because of the content.

I got tired of the accusations….TheFirebert suggested an excellent procedure, one that I followed.

I appreciated the suggestions you have made, do you have any more?

Thanks in advance for those you send my way.

Sometimes being owed money is the best way to never see someone again. Better than being paid back.

I once loaned someone $800.

Never heard from them again.

Well worth it when you consider how many times i would've had to put up with him.

Could be about $40 a visit at this point.

Good deal.

I shall interject my completely unnecessary yet indulgent opinion on the issue at hand, for the recent article posters, and the LF public at large:

This article contains news, information or the author’s opinion.

This concept is to be readily implied and understood that the article is to be shared as information to be dissected and conversed upon.

The “Post Comment” link [at the very end of the post, below the Poster's Comments:] is defaulted “To” the “Post by (Screen Name).”

It should be courtesy to redirect the To: block to a ping list or other participant if your comment is not intended for the OP.

A comment is directed to the author of the article when “To: [Gatlin]” is shown.

This should be considered "implied intent" on the relying poster's part. An alternate method to respond is to add the article's author to the To: box, avoiding the confusion altogether.

Use caps for "GATLIN” in the “To” block when directing a response to me.

Wonderful idea. Sometimes it is difficult to detect whether the reply is directed to the poster or the article's author.

The posted article has been extracted if it is too long or copyrighted.

I would actually recommend adding a comment of your own (opinion, fact, or anything else to establish intent) along with the standard block you posted. We all become somewhat in a corrective mood when the subject is closer to the heart. It is best to put your piece out first than let your neighbor get the wrong impression. Also, skipping some content, and indicating within the article that you did so, can have the desired effect.

I am always editing my comments before submitting it out of a concern that someone will take it out of context, or worse - prompt a mod to censor some of the posting or reply...

Thank you for your input.

This article contains news, information or the author’s opinion.

This concept is to be readily implied and understood that the article is to be shared as information to be dissected and conversed upon.

Great point. I agree and deleted the first line.

The “Post Comment” link [at the very end of the post, below the Poster's Comments:] is defaulted “To” the “Post by (Screen Name).”

I don’t understand….please explain.
A comment is directed to the author of the article when “To: [Gatlin]” is shown.

This should be considered "implied intent" on the relying poster's part. An alternate method to respond is to add the article's author to the To: box, avoiding the confusion altogether.

This is the problem. It is not considered or understood by many posters that their commented is directed to the author when they click on Post Comment. Often times I have seen the poster of the article reply to a comment with such: “You are saying this to (or about, etc.) the author and not me, right?”

You placing Staff@CBN.com or GATLIN in the “To” block let me know EXACTLY which comments I should read and possibly comment on and which comments I am expected to read and reply to. I also noted that Post #1 was not shown because I had the poster on bozo.

Use caps for "GATLIN” in the “To” block when directing a response to me.

Wonderful idea. Sometimes it is difficult to detect whether the reply is directed to the poster or the article's author.

Excellent response. I will repeat my response to your prior point:
Your technique of placing Staff@CBN.com and GATLIN let me know EXACTLY to whom you were directing your comments.

I understand. I will need to give this some thought. I post most articles because I feel they are interesting enough for others to read. Often times after I read and post an article, I have not been able to reach a conclusion as to whether I agree or disagree with the content….etc.

I will come back to this point you stated:

- prompt a mod to censor some of the posting or reply...

I have seen forums where there is a check block that can be used to call a moderators attention to a certain post.
