Joni Ernst, the freshman Republican senator from Iowa who will provide the GOP response to President Obama's State of the Union Address on Tuesday, has been in the Senate less than a month, but she has already made history. Ernst is the first woman ever elected to Congress from Iowa and the first female combat veteran ever to serve in the Senate. Largely unknown a year ago, Ernst claimed victory in November over four-term Democratic Rep. Bruce Braley for the U.S. Senate seat previously held for decades by liberal hero Tom Harkin.

I highly respect Rand Paul's stance and support for the Life at Conception Act. Wonder if the run of the mill agnostic/atheist libertarians would support such a staunch pro lifer as Rand? The man understands Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness is rank ordered.

As I recall, every personhood amendment that was up for vote in individual states was roundly defeated. What makes Paul, or you, believe that this would pass in DC?
14th Amendment. Wording allows Congress to define citizenship. Also Roe vs Wade decision left open the matter of Congress determining when life begins. Will look at it more later this week and we can link up again. The House will vote soon on the fetus pain Bill.

Wording allows Congress to define citizenship. The Constitution already defines citizen, it does not define person. If you recall the RvW decision rejected the argument that a fetus was entitled to the protection of the 14th Amendment.
They supported his dad in '88 and the LP has been effectively a pro-life party since. Officially, they are neutral but the moment the question actually comes up, it is clear Ron Paul had a strong following on this question. Prior to '88, the LP was unabashedly pro-abortion with no limits at all. Of course, we have to ask if the Pauls are simply being doctors or as philosopher/politicians on the question. I think they are physicians first.
Are citizens the only ones granted rights under the Constitution? At what point do we draw the line? 8/9?
