It appears that there is very little interest in the RIP Goldi ping list. I am going to delete it.
That could be a mistake, SOSO. Many of us are still reeling from Goldie's death and the shutdown of LP. I haven't even thought of signing up for ping lists yet. There are prolly many just like me. We were there for so long...

There can't be much fresh news about Goldi still to come. She was cremated and her ashes will be put in the Gulf. sneaky inquired and found out her cat got adopted.
The list was populated. There just weren't that many. Perhaps how I handled the flamming you and a few others new to LF from LP as I am obviated the need to have a safe haven. Or not.

If you read my reason for establishing the list it wasn't to grieve or eulogize Goldi per se but to give those of us on LP coming to LF a safe harbor from being harassed and flamed by ex-LPers with a score to settle with Goldi. If you wish I will gladly make you a co-owner of the list and you may keep it open for as long as you wish.
I know. I did read it. I'm just at a point where I'm silent. There is a lot going on in my life right now. Goldie and the problems at LP are just one anguish. I might like to take co-owner later, but not right now. Thanks.

That's fine. I will not delete it for a couple of weeks then. However, at some point I feel obliged to do so as I said I would if there was no interest in it.

I think Sally would have liked that, rather than be interred somewhere. I'm so glad that someone adopted her cat. RIP Goldie.
I'm still trying to come to terms with my leaving LP on October 15th. That ugly attack on Christians really hurt. I still went there to read poster friends comments. Then she passed away. Her last post was on Nov. 4th. Now LP is totally gone. Sad.
Have not seen the memorial site set up yet. Last word was it would be up soon and we could peruse old threads.

Re: the closing of LP...
Apologies for requesting info that is probably old news to most already here; but, the last I heard, sysadmin was planning to continue LP for the foreseeable future with the possibility of it being taken over by someone else; and, that a few potential takers-over had already offered proposals of sorts. Am wondering what happened since then that caused the decision to close completely...
That's what happened. He decided to close it down after the voting process turned into a sniping session.
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

I think he and Neil felt that all things considered there was no replacement for Goldi and that closing the site would be the most fitting action to her memory. It was a clean, neat resolution.
Thanks for the replies. I sort of understand the reasoning from Neil's an sysadmin's standpoint with all the bickering; but, it's a shame for the archives to also be closed. There's a lot of good info there that anyone familiar with the site could retrieve. In other words, the archives could be used as a reference source, for some, at least...
Regardless, this seems to be a well organized and run forum; so, I'm sure all will work out for the best...
Just curious, I missed whatever announcement was made about voting for something. Was the voting about who would become owner?

I agree with you, packbot. Lots and lots of good debate and discussions down the rat hole. Not sure, but it seems they might still be available (at some point in time) according to the last few things sysadmin posted.

Just wait until A K A Stone gets off his meds and shows his true colors. So far, he's been on his best behavior and I like him for that.

Well the choices for voting were the following:
-tpaine
-Pericles
-sysadmin continues
-shut down
The first two choices did not sit well with many. Kind of like the presidential candidate choices Americans have been getting since 1988. And 3&4 choice was like not voting or voting for a third party:)
So sysadmin saw no winners and shut the site down. Bickering had something to do with it, but I think he did not want the legal issues for continuing the site.

Well then don't provoke him:)

Didn't sysadmin say something about having the elPee archives available in the future in Read-Only status?
I believe he did. What was up last was a virtual headstone. He said some time later he would do a memorial page with access to old threads. I have been told, however, my understanding was in error.

That was but one of four choices. If I recall correctly tpaine and Pericles both offered to assume ownership with respective conditions. However much of the consideration for all choices was over finding a suitable new Moderator. I don't recall that anyone volunteered for that duty.
There's a picture up of Goldi on the LP status page.
"And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;" (Revelation 5:9)
