They are definitely in a slot you could call mainstream counterculture. You may recall I posted a few rather surprising articles from them back at LP this last year. They routinely attack the narratives of the Slimes and WaPo and Atlantic and NPR and New Republic, exactly as they did here. I don't know that they are actually any more conservative in their political slant. They just are looking for angle to cut down the reputation of the big name-brand house organs of domestic propaganda so they can grab a slice of their market share.
