House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is said to be losing the strong support she has enjoyed among her Democrats in the United States House of Representatives. Yet, the 74-year-old politician powerhouse from California has made it well known to her fellow-Democratic lawmakers that she intends on keeping her position in Washington, D.C., as the House Minority Leader. As she expresses her desire to stay in power, Politico is reporting on Thursday that there are no Democrats preparing to challenge Pelosi publicly even though there are those who wish she would be replaced.
According to senate aides, politicians are grumbling behind the scenes while hoping that Pelosi will basically do a better job if no one will step up to challenge her as a replacement. Following Tuesday’s midterm election results which trounced the Democrats, it has been said that that should be the rude awakening that is needed for Pelosi. They assert that Pelosi – or whoever becomes leader of the Democrats in the House – needs to go beyond their reach for women in America.
It is said that the leadership along with the rest of the Party needs to reach out to include men as well as older people and other groups. Of course, backlack over Obamacare with its continued reports of having an extremely negative impact on seniors will make acceptance by older people a huge, in not futile, challenge. Obviously, the Democrats’ fingerprints are all over Obamacare and can’t be erased.
On Friday, Pelosi lashed out at Democratic voters during a 75-minute call with caucus members, according to the Washington Times. Rejecting the notion that the outcome of the election was her or the Democratic lawmakers’ fault, she said that her Party’s message had nothing to do with the loss. She asserted that the trouncing her Party received on Tuesday was due to voter turnout. The only criticism she would give her fellow-Democrats is a tongue-lashing, of sorts, for not getting people to the polls.
The House leadership elections are to be held on Nov. 18. That is one week after the Republicans will be choosing their leadership. Like Pelosi, Boehner has made it known that he intends to stay on as Majority Leader. It is typical of Republicans to air their grievances with their leadership publicly in a much more transparent fashion. The Democrats are historically not as transparent with their concerns about their leadership and fellow-lawmakers.
The reason given for the non-public complaining about Pelosi is said to be that she is quite the fundraiser. Out of respect for the big bucks she has brought into the Democratic Party, she is treated better than her work apparently warrants. Pelosi has been at the lead of her Party for some 12 years already. NPR says that Friday was the post-election luncheon at the White House with President Barack Obama and the Democrat and Republican leaders from both chambers of Congress, of which Pelosi would have been present.
