Josephus Weeks wrote in the Dallas Morning News that his uncle was denied the best coverage because he was black and had no money or insurance. 'What happened at Texas Health Presbyterian must never happen to another family,' he wrote in the scathing article. Josephus Weeks, nephew of Ebola victim Thomas Eric Duncan, said his uncle died a needless death. "He was a man of color with no health insurance and no means to pay for treatment, so within hours he was released," Weeks wrote in a Tuesday op-ed for the Dallas Morning News. Weeks ripped into Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital where his uncle died, saying the medical facility's "ignorance, incompetence and indecency has yet to be explained." The Rev. "From his botched release from the emergency room to his delayed testing and delayed treatment and the denial of experimental drugs that have been available to every other case of Ebola treated in the U.S., the hospital invited death every step of the way," Weeks wrote. "What happened at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital (in) Dallas must never happen to another family." He called Duncan "a victim of a broken system" and said that the hospital's judgment has put the nation's safety at risk. Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital said in a statement last week that it "provided Mr. Duncan with the same high level of attention and care that would be given any patient, regardless of nationality or ability to pay for care." Duncan's fiancée said she hoped for a full investigation into the case. Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson has also joined the family to speak out against Duncan's care. Other bombshells from Weeks' scathing article: Duncan's family did not hear about his death from his doctors, but from the media, and the hospital did not help them communicate with him. Duncan died alone, Weeks wrote, his only medication a saline drip. Weeks asked in his piece why his uncle's Ebola tests were said to take three to seven days whereas a Texas deputy's testing took 24 hours. He also wrote that his uncle was a "cautious" man who knew the risks of living in Liberia and did not help a pregnant woman with Ebola, as was speculated. He also said "with 100 percent certainty" that Duncan "would have never knowingly exposed anyone to this illness."
