Seen Robbie Ross on Quick Pitch and his version of the team who couldn't field ground balls, throw or cover 1st base.
The Bosox game last nite?
The guy quick-pitches as a weapon. Despite the sloppy fielding he shut the Yanks down. I would instruct my hitters to step out of the box....often in order to disrupt his rhythm.
The Yanks' Stephen Drew may only be hitting a buck-69 BUT is slugging around .375 with 12 dingers. Robinson Cano -- the gazillion dollar man -- is slugging the SAME as Drew (his second base replacement.) Brutal investment. Check out some of the slugging averages of some "stars" -- it's mind-blowing.
$31 million dollars and only 49 RBIs to show for it, something has got to change.
49 Ribbies? 'Bout on pace for 100. Not bad.
The rest of the lineups have to pitch in.
TRIVIA: Mickey Mantle back in 1959 had a brutal year (for him.) 75 RBIs. ALL YEAR. You know who stinks? The Bosox' Panda and Hanley Ramirez. Plus neither he (Hanley) or Big Papi wants to play first base. Too many Prima Donna Latino players take the money...and run.
Looks like Feliz ended up where a lot of ex-Ranger pitchers end up, Detroit.

With the new rules to help speed up the game they aren't allowed to play that cat and mouse game much anymore, also depends on the umpire.

Meanwhile in the Bronx, the Jekyll & Hyde Yanks are doing just enough. They've got a killer BP (Betances, Miller, etal), gotten resurgences from the old guys (Texiera and A-Rod), and SP staff that keeps them in games for 6 innings.
On the Yanks I'll wait until mid August to assess them. Right about then Texiera and A Rod will be getting tuckered out and hit the DL.
Rangers? As I stated earlier in the thread it is a rebuilding year. Next year too. This year if they finish above .500 that would be monumental. If other AL contenders struggle down the Sept stretch they could be in a position for that second wild card. But not convinced enough to buy tickets to that WC game right now:)
The Rangers have always been a "streaky" team. If they streak at the right time while others are sleeping it can get interesting. No matter if they make it to October, they don't have the shut down starting rotation to go deep.
The current rotation is hanging in there and performing well above expectations and ability.
Nick Martinez making his first start for Round Rock tonight. Looks like they gave him a week off. I expect he will only get 5-6 innings to keep season total down.
Gallo sat last night. Guess they are giving him a rest to figure things out.
ARLINGTON -- The Rangers recalled right-handed pitcher Roman Mendez from Triple-A Round Rock and designated left-handed pitcher Ross Detwiler for assignment on Saturday.
In 12 games for the Rangers earlier this season, Mendez recorded a 5.40 ERA, and he had a 2.57 ERA in 13 games at Round Rock. He joins Spencer Patton to give Texas two middle relievers.
Detwiler was acquired from the Nationals to be in the Rangers' rotation, but he went 0-5 with a 6.95 ERA in seven starts. The 29-year-old went on the disabled list from May 15 to June 4 with left shoulder inflammation and then returned to the bullpen. He had a 7.71 ERA as a reliever.
Looks like another one bites the dust.

And Perez is scheduled for his last rehab start tomorrow. But he still has options so could stay in AAA for awhile longer.

Right now, Gallardo, Colby Lewis and Wandy Rodriguez are the Rangers' most consistent pitchers, but they are free agents after the season. Then there are the three pitchers that the Rangers do have signed long term: Matt Harrison, Derek Holland and Martin Perez
Something to ponder/speculate on.

I wonder if there is a way where I could find his individual at bats to see what he's doing??

Just think how good Cruz would look in RF about right now.
We need to fit JD with one of these...

You know I never could figure out why they got rid of Uehara.

And Martin strikes out to end the game with 2 baserunners.

Going into Sunday's game, his .289 batting average, 16 home runs, 46 RBIs, .335 on-base percentage and .538 slugging percentage were all career highs for the first half of a season. It's easy to see why Moreland feels this has been the best of his five seasons with the Rangers.
One of the few bright spots on the team so far, looks like he has a good chance to hit 30 HRs and 100 RBIs.... Finally!!

I suppose they could just release him and make him a free agent, but at what cost?
I don't think you're gonna find a dance partner for a trade unless "they" could use a LHed DH, and even then I doubt it.
They are still paying on when they got rid of both A-Wad and Michael Young!!

I was going to ask who you thought they were going to call up for the 2nd half but I just noticed they optioned Mendez and announced Perez will start on Friday against the Astros.
Any guesses as to anymore moves??

I have a sneaking suspicion that you're right about that one.
The other thing is will they be buyers or sellers?
I think they will do both if they can, get rid of at least 1 big contract maybe 2 and pick up some relievers.

If you get the MLB channel the AAA All Star game is on and they just did an interview with Jon Edwards, guess he had cancer recently.
Telis is also there.

Yes they will sell to buy:) I think the organization is putting 2017 as their target year. With Yu not coming back until mid 2016, I'm thinking the strategic plan is 2017 and interesting...Beltre is not in that plan I don't think.
However, I don't think they deal Beltre. They need power right hand bats and he's one until another deal is made. The organization has a glut of LH bats and that will be dealt. Choo is the likely candidate but his contract is toxic and so is his current performance. Only a team in need of a LH DH is going to consider Choo. He is a liability in the OF with all the young players coming up in the MLB.
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.---John 1:17
From what I can find Choo has a straight up contract which means no buy out options.
If they decide to dump Choo the only option I see that would benefit them is if they try to send him to the minors and he refuses and becomes a Free Agent. His contract would end at that time and the Rangers owe him nothing but plane tickets and a few other little things. They can also terminate his contract but they will still have financial obligations that go with this course of action.
(At least I think this is what the MLB CBA says)???

They might as well now after what I seen this weekend.

Martinez got bombed for 7 runs tonight. Then settled well and bats came back. Now Sheppers .....nail biter gets a bases loaded out. Good thing Choo was pulled and Hammy was in RF.
Going to top 9th after double switch.

Who is on pace for 45 RBIs and getting paid 16M a year, unless he shows in the last 1/2 of the season he still can hit it's time to let him go.
I still think letting Bogar go was a dumb move.

By a team that stinks, when you score 7 runs you should win the game.
Looks to me like some of the coaches need to find a new place of employment next year.

Now there's an article today (on the DFW site) where Beltre was asked if he should be playing with a bum thumb. He responded "don't know." I know what that means. He sees the team sinking in the standings and the pitching struggling each game. He's seen this movie before.
Regardless, in 3 of the past 4 games the offense has hit double digit hits. They drove in 7 last night with great base running. I think the late July offensive streak is cooking up...But the pitching will continue to struggle.
For the Rangers to properly compete they need Perez and Holland to be back to previous injury performance. Harry a wild card. Only way to get all three 'back there' is to pitch them. To pitch them means you 'break a few eggs' in the process and give up runs. But that is what rebuilding/retooling teams do to be better the next year and years ahead.
Now Beltre knows this I'm sure..He's a team player but would also like a shot at a WS ring. JD mentioned this as well and said he would not stand in his way. However, what team is going to pick up his salary, deal some youth for a rental with an option and bum thumb? What contender would do that? DH for the Houston Astros? Perhaps he is the vet they need in the line up and clubhouse. Time will tell, but I see Belts with us until at least this year. I think next year is an option year.
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.---John 1:17
Well the bats came alive last night. Choo hit for the cycle...Perhaps the Rockies GM noticed and wants him:)
Harry got a bunch of ground balls (and pitched shutout innings) our guys actually caught and got outs. I'm sure he's happy that outing and did a lot to boost his confidence.

Yes next year is an option year so he would only be a 3 month rental for 1 or 2 A or AA prospects. You never know somebody might want to pick him up as "insurance" not as a full time starter.

His "heeter" also topped out in the low 90s which helps, of course keeping the ball down in the strike zone helps more.

Scheppers needs a new zip code. He blew the first game in the bottom 9th and today gave up 4 runs in the 8th allowing the Rockies to tie the game. Elvis came through for two runs in the 9th and they won. What stinks is Scheppers got the win after blowing the lead!
