The country is a mess. The state you live in is a mess. The county you live in is a mess. The city you live in is a mess. But what have you performed to prepare for disaster from any force whether manmade or natural?

Have you electrical power? Solar/NaturalGas/Propane/Gasoline Generator(s) to generate electricity for your various needs? Water? Food? Shelter? How about a library whether hardcover/paperback/electronic? What about personal defense?

The goal of this thread is to describe your ideas to become self-sufficient within reasonable personal means, independent of the messes that most know pre-exisit in an arbitrary world.

Make a comment about what you have performed and/or plan to do.

What a person would do depends on the person's status: believer or non-believer. A believer would depend upon God who will take care of him. A non-believer's best course of action would be to lean over, put his head between his legs, and kiss his a-- goodbye.

Hi Don -

Are you saying God wipes your ass, too? And you call that act being prepared?

You are the one who is talking about fecal matter. That should surprise no one. If you are really interested in Road Warrior scenarios, just stick around. It's coming your way.

Let's be honest. Our country really isn't "a mess" - nor are our states, counties, or cities. There are a lot of places in the world that are in bad shape, here in the USA, that is not the case.

Now, natural disasters are another story. Sometimes they happen. The biggest threats we have in central Ohio are tornadoes and ice storms/blizzards. In the event of either, lack of utilities for a week or so would be the worst part.We have plenty of water and non-perishables, a fireplace, and a gas grill. We'd be fine. We usually have one or two bad storms a year and at least one major winter event.

Worst case, we have plenty of family, friends and neighbors nearby.

Not sure what you mean by "manmade" but There will never be a zombie apocalypse...

Ahh ... just a moment, Donny ... did you state the following in the first post of the thread?

A non-believer's best course of action would be to lean over, put his head between his legs, and kiss his a-- goodbye.

What illusion are you under? You made the subtle attempt about an ass right out of the gate ... FIRST.

I suppose God and/or your Bible shall help you navigate through a disaster while you sit on your ASS waiting for a divine message.

Why don't you be honest? The place is a freak show. Worst economy in history when ratiometrically measured to ALL combined city/county/state/federal government debt while more people work for those same entities in all of history.

Worst case, we have plenty of family, friends and neighbors nearby.

I am attempting to understand your point in regards to the thread topic.

This thread is about being prepared for disasters. What does being a non-believer about God have to do with the thread? Do you and other so-called "believers" have a super-secret maejiick trick you can discuss with us that can exactly pin-point your capability and capacitity for preparedness considerations/planning and provide recommendations besides citing a comick book called "the Bible?"

Narrow? Naw ... it is all about "quality of life" and when QoL plummets a little uprising occurs. It is a fairely simple principle. It is imbued in thousands of years mankind's documented history whether real or imagined.

Living off the "fat" o' the land, aren't ya?

What's your point?

You seem to have only a "plan" to live off of other's generousity. You havn't done much for yourself.

What is your definition of disaster? Are you waiting for a solar flare or pulse bomb to wipe out your computer or a thunderstorm to tap dance on your head? Do you want to fight hoards of rioting bad guys or eat for a week or so while the grocery stores restock their shelves? What is your pleasure?

Actually Texas is not a mess to respond to disasters. We do it quite often. West TX and Hurricane Rita come to mind as well as Katrina in the Gulf areas. Texas responded well. The locals pull together. When West TX had the fertilizer plant explosion local emergency response was well managed. Hundreds of local churches opened their doors for the homeless, fed hundreds, provided clothing and even work. In the secular Northeast people went dumpster diving for food after Sandy while they waited for the Usurper in chief to bring them FEMA.

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name (John 1:12)

I suppose you were attempting a, "man does not live by bread alone" Kodak moment. But, how about some freeze dried, vaccum sealed food stored away for potential disasters?

You seem to have only a "plan" to live off of other's "generosity". You havn't done much for yourself.

Live off others' generosity?

that's another narrow view.....We're quite capable of taking care of ourselves, and in reality - friends, family and neighbors are welcome to gather in MY home if mother nature causes a temporary interruption....as my family would be welcome in theirs. Can you grasp the difference?

I believe the preppers are wasting an enormous amount of time, effort and resources hoping for their catastrophic apocalypse.....JMHO

QOL "plummets"? Are you serious? QOL has never been better in this country.

Americans live in luxury. Medicine, science and technology are improving our standard of living by leaps and bounds! We are smarter, better fed, more pampered, relaxed and happy! On what quality of life issues are you focusing?

Uprising? Please, there will be no uprisings, that is ridiculous.

We are smarter,

If that is true. Why is Americas ranking in education falling so far.

If that is true why are so many people to stupid to know marriage is between a man and a woman. Someone has to be really dumb to pretend that perverts are normal and acceptable.

Here is what we need. A sword for when the bullets run out. So you can behead the enemies like the black chick on the walking dead.

The parable about the Bridegroom found in Matthew chapter 25 is also good advice.

Yeah, we have a full fridge and freezer. I think we are ok for natural disasters, which normally have a short duration. If Bucky wants to know about preparations for solar flares or invasion by the elves and the gremlins or an end of the world, about the best he could do for long term survival is buy a couple of boxes of Hershey's Chocolate. What part of "end of the world," that they constantly talk about do they have a problem understanding? If the world ends as many of them predict, do they expect to live on a tiny slice of Mother Earth whizzing through the Galaxy while they are guzzling home brew? It all reminds me of the building of fall-out shelters craze of the Cold War Era.

What happens when your electrical power is disrupted? Do you (as the thread title indicates) have backup electrical power?

Donnie .. please do a favor for those viewing the thread: stay on track. Nowhere have I indicated "end of the world" scenarios. In fact, you have consistently poised yourself as a Christian evangelist that believes in some sort of, "end of the world" as Jesus is coming for you and taking you to heaven because of your strident belief system. Why on Earth are you projecting your own ideas on me or anyone that intelligently considers planning for uneventful disasters?

I suppose all you require is a cross, a Bible and a prayer in order to prepare.

Ask yourself, who benefits from "America's declining ranking in education?"

"If that is true why are so many people to stupid to know marriage is between a man and a woman."

Anyway, perhaps you feel it is stupidity....most Americans simply believe that equality means equal rights and equal treatment under the law.

Donnie ... I havn't watched TV since 1993. So, again, you are wrong. Here, let me help you out: read your Bible and pray to some illusive God while rolling your rosary between your thumb and forefinger. Wh knows ... you might, just might, get closer to the truth.
