Our country really isn't "a mess" - nor are our states, counties, or cities. There are a lot of places in the world that are in bad shape, here in the USA, that is not the case. Now, natural disasters are another story. Sometimes they happen. The biggest threats we have in central Ohio are tornadoes and ice storms/blizzards. In the event of either, lack of utilities for a week or so would be the worst part.We have plenty of water and non-perishables, a fireplace, and a gas grill. We'd be fine. We usually have one or two bad storms a year and at least one major winter event. Worst case, we have plenty of family, friends and neighbors nearby. We do it quite often. West TX and Hurricane Rita come to mind as well as Katrina in the Gulf areas. Texas responded well. The locals pull together. When West TX had the fertilizer plant explosion local emergency response was well managed.
