Bible Study Title: Judges Who Regard Not…Luke 18 pt 2 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? (Luke 18:1-8) We are looking at this parable, the aim of which is given to us by Jesus, that men ought always to pray and not faint, cave in, or give up. Christians are never to give up on prayer, neither personal prayer, nor devotional, nor corporate prayer. Furthermore this is talking about not giving up on a certain prayer request. We are to urgently and constantly plead for the vindication. Thy Kingdom come,Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven
should be our constant and ever-increasing cry. The church in this world is to see herself like this desperate widow woman, constantly crying out for vindication, and not just succumbing to the unjust status quo. She has no worldly power, otherwise she wouldnt have been taken advantage of. The deck has been stacked against her, in the world of injustice that she has to live in. She has no money or political influence, nor does she have any earthly protectors. But she daily cries out for vindication. Part of the problem, set into the simile by Jesus, is the fact that the Judge who wields power over her, or who has the earthly power to dispose of her affairs, is utterly amoral. He fears no God, nor does he have any respect for people. He is utterly arbitrary, self-seeking and unpredictable. Several commentators point out that this is no Jewish Judge. Usually in Jewish justice, there is a panel of judges, and the fear of God is the primary consideration in all of the dealings. Even if individual judges of Israel proved corrupt, the system itself was steeped in and based upon the Word of God. But Israel had come under the custody of Gentiles. The Judge this woman pled before was alone, seemingly unaccountable and completely godless. This is pagan, humanistic justice, removed from Truth, the fear of God and even human considerations. Do we not live in the day of the Judges who do not regard God or man? We, who once enjoyed a Judeo Christian legal system, which was the envy of the whole world? We too now suffer the terrible, biased, arbitrary effects of pagan justice. Every single advance of the Agenda of atheism has come to pass, in the USA not by referendum, but by the rulings and decrees of Judges who refuse to regard God or man. Abortion would never be the law of the land had we been allowed to vote on it and debate it. It was imposed on us, as has been the legalization of pornography, homosexual marriage, affirmative action, the removal of Christian symbols from the public life of a largely Christian nation, and countless other examples of Judicial oppression which have been smothering our moral and civic life. The past sixty years or so have been an unending series of dismantling our Judeo Christian civilization, piece by piece. It seems that virtually every challenge to the destruction of anything that is godly in our world has lost. We have elected those who said they were against this erosion, and even when in power they seem powerless to even stanch the tide of corruption. This destruction has been accomplished without vote , referendum of debate, but almost entirely by the decree of godless Judges. I have seen over the years, much organized resistance, by the churches, to pornography, abortion, the norming of homosexuality, and the host of other evils engulfing us. It is not as though The church doesnt do enough, as many charge. Do you remember operation rescue? The Moral majority? There have been countless organizations and campaigns, and political voting blocs organized, against this evil, but by the stroke of a Judges pen, the will of millions of organized people is nullified, as recently when 8 million Californians voted in a referendum against Gay marriage only to be declared unconstitutional by a gay judge. When perverted Judges in Iowa (wrongfully) legislated, imposing gay marriage on the State, three of the judges were voted out in the next election*, but the damage was done. I think I am beginning to understand something about the church. We dont really have worldly power, we will always be disenfranchised by the world, because the world doesnt love us. We are witnesses in this world. We can slow down the rot, up to a point. Our only power is Truth. And the power to cry out to God, for the Vindication. * Those Three Judges were subsequently given the Profiles In Courage award by Caroline Kennedy, daughter of President John F Kennedy, as though they were martyrs.
