(CBS) SPOKANE, Wash. -- Kenan Adams-Kinard, a suspect in the beating death of World War II veteran Delbert Belton, was captured on surveillance video stealing a cell phone out of a woman's lap on a bus in May, authorities said.

CBS affiliate KREM reports that Adams-Kinard, 16, pleaded guilty to theft and fourth degree assault in the incident. He served just over one month and paid the victim $400, reports the station.

The second suspect in the murder and robbery of 88-year-old Belton, Demetrius Glenn, pleaded guilty to an assault and riot charge after investigators said he was among a group that attacked a teenage boy at Northeast Spokane's Rochester Park in September of 2011. Glenn, 16, admitted he hit the boy with a stick, which one witness said had a nail attached to the end, reports the station.

Police say the 88-year-old, who survived the Battle of Okinawa, was beaten to death Wednesday by the two teens during an apparent robbery as he was waiting outside the Eagles Ice-A-Rena in Spokane for a friend.

Authorities say Glenn and Adams-Kinard attacked Belton in his car, apparently at random, and stole cash. Belton's family told KREM after the attack that the vet was beaten with "big heavy flashlights."

The teens are charged with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery. Glenn turned himself in Thursday, and Adams-Kinard was arrested early Monday in a basement apartment in Spokane after police followed up on tips from his family.

The charges carry a potential life sentence.

During a court hearing Tuesday, during which Adams-Kinard was ordered held on $3 million bail, his lawyer claimed the teens were meeting Belton to buy crack and attacked the veteran after they were "shorted." Investigators told KREM the claim was "ridiculous."

A memorial service for Belton with full military honors was planned for Thursday, followed by a church service on Friday.

It's a damn shame these cowardly punks chose to do this in leftie Washington state instead of Texas, where they would be executed. Notice how these "brave bad mens" always pick somebody that can't fight back, and then outnumber them and usually attack them from behind? Now that I am old and have trouble walking due to arthritic knees and a bad back,it's only a matter of time before a couple of these yahoos target me. Unless they are very lucky, bad things will happen to them.

By the way, what do you think of the. Springfield 45 XDm's?

I bought one recently and have been pretty impressed. For the money it's been a great gun. Any known problems?

Still shooting straight?

I shoot running snakes with a handgun, and rarely miss if they are within 15-20 feet unless I am shooting the 22 revolver with the bent sights and 1-1/2 inch barrel. Never have been able to shoot handguns with barrels shorter than 3 inches worth a damn.

I don't think I have ever missed with my 3 inch 44 Special, though. I don't carry it much in the yard anymore because it's just too damn expensive to shoot snakes with compared to the 22. Same with the 357's, 9mm's and the 45's. I do carry one of the serious caliber handguns for social situations and for backup if I'm walking around in the yard at night. My main weapon in the yard at night is either a 12 gauge double with 20 inch barrels,or a Model 37 Ithaca. This is because of the bear that sometimes comes through my yard at night, and the coyotes. I just don't see well enough after dark anymore to rely on a handgun while shooting at something that can move fast while using a LED flashlight on my hat or forehead. Damn white light screws up my depth perception, too.

Now we give up our freedom to protect our lives.

Not me. If a couple of these yahoos want to attack me,I say "Bring it!". I'm pretty bored anyhow, and could use a little excitement.

Nothing specifically. I have always heard their 1911's are first class handguns, though.

AFAIK,the only quality problems Springfield has ever had was with their M1A's 10 years or so ago. I have friends that are "Camp Perry" competitive shooters (serious target shooters to those of you who don't know what that means) that bought new Springfield Match Grade M1A's at over 2 grand each, and ended up returning them due to headspace problems after only a few thousand rounds.

Their receivers were too soft, and the bolts were setting back. I taught one of them how to cut barrel threads and set up locking lug contacts for correct headspace by milling the inside of the new receivers (Smiths,IIRC) and then lapping in the bolt after making a spring-loaded barrel plug, and then how to properly bed a stock. They used the "freeze dried" treated barrels (Kreiger,IIRC) that were popular at the time, and the friend I taught to do this built up several for the other guys.

AFAIK, they are still happily shooting them with no problems. If Springfield is still selling the M1A's,I have to assume they corrected their heat treatments.

BTW,my reward for doing all this work and driving hundreds of miles to do it was supposed to have been a "free" Smith's receiver and a GI 4 groove barrel, but I never got them.

arthritic knees and a bad back

Get Naproxen ... over the counter miracle drug --- hy grade super refined aspirin stronger than aleve !

It basically is anti inflammatory so the pain goes away !

On emergency problems I was getting prescriptions from the clinic - hospital then recently from an emergency room doctor (( I requested not knowing it was available over the counter )) ... for a real bad work injury after it hurt me regulary for over a year to my knee cartilage --- it immediately went away like the rest of the various bone problems I had !

Just after that I had a bursitis chest - to shoulder - to back problem (( I thought the pain was going to go to life time blackout levels - thankfully not )) that was 10 x's worse that took a lot longer to thankfully go away !

A lot of people are suffering needlessy for pain that can be easily fixed !

You have to be carefull of stomach - blood thinning side affects that is common to all aspirin products !

The upside is ... except for the bursitis problem the pill intake level was practically nothing --- because the cure - relief was immediate !

What is Naproxen?

Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Naproxen works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.

Naproxen is used to treat pain or inflammation caused by conditions such as arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, tendinitis, bursitis, gout, or menstrual cramps.

Naproxen may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

I am already on blood thinners,so I hesitate to take any more.

I stumbled across an electronic device called "ivivi Torino Signal Generator"

www.ivivihealthsciences.com

by accident that uses electronic pulses to reduce pain and increase blood circulation. It was developed for human use and is approved by the FDA,but it's mostly used on pets by veterinarians because hybaric pressure chambers like the ones used by deep sea divers to prevent the bends work better at healing wounds that don't want to heal (VERY oxygen rich pressurized atmosphere). Vets use it on animals because the pressure chambers are over $1,000 per use,and most people can't afford to spend that kind of money on a pet. Still, the testimonial pages by vets showed very impressive results on injured cats and dogs. Not only in pain reduction, but in healing infected wounds from fights and car accidents. One video showed a cat that couldn't even stand because of painful joints, and within a week the cat was walking. Since I don't like taking drugs I was really attracted to it because it was advertised as easing pain.

Unfortunately you have to have a prescription to buy one,and they are only good for around 200 uses before the battery goes dead and you have to buy a new one.

The good news is you only have to use it twice a day for 15 minutes at a time. At almost 200 bucks for one I was a little leery about it,but my shoulder was hurting so much at night that I was having trouble sleeping,so I gave it a shot. I figured it MIGHT work after you had used it for several days, but it just so happened my shoulder was killing me the same day it came in the mail,so I put in on as soon as I got home from the post office. Damned if my shoulder didn't stop hurting within 10 minutes. Not "eased off",stopped. Not only that, but I didn't have to use it again for 3 or 4 days.

Since then I have also used it on my right knee a couple of times when it hurt so bad I had trouble standing. One 15 minute use and the pain had gone away to the point where I could put weight on it and almost move normally within 15 minutes.

It might not work for everybody, but I'm sure a big fan of it.
