LEFT WING LOONS Title: Gender confusion and the death of common sense Gender confusion and the death of common sense Saturday, July 20, 2013 - Biblical Politics by Frank Kacer CALIFORNIA July 20, 2013 Gender self-selection is becoming the newest legal right. Advocates even talk of a gender spectrum, where a person believes theyre a boy one day, a girl the following day, or something in between. But how can it be good for either the individual or our society when such a foundational characteristic of human identity is relegated to mere choice, no matter how sincere the conviction? The recently conferred legal right of a sixth grade Colorado boy to use the girls bathroom because he believes hes a girl is just one example. In California statewide legislation is being passed (Assembly Bill 1266) to force all sex-segregated school programs and activities to allow access by teenage boys and girls depending on whatever gender they think they are that day. That includes any sports team, locker rooms, showering side-by-side, even the use of restrooms. One has to wonder, what happened with the right of privacy, or the freedom of assembly, the right to be protected from legalized gender (or sexual) harassment, or even common sense? Much of the confusion over gender is being caused by a redefining of the term itself. What used to be clearly associated with ones sex is now only arbitrarily assigned. Older dictionaries equate gender characteristics of masculinity and femininity with being a male or female, respectfully. But in our politically correct, relativistic, secular psychology-driven society, gender now refers to ones perception of themselves independent of their sex. In fact, the World Health Organization defines sex as the biological and physiological characteristics that define men and women while gender refers to the socially constructed roles, behaviors, activities, and attributes that a given society considers appropriate for men and women. Not surprisingly, if gender identity is imposed by outside influences, then the natural impulse of children to reject authority during their maturing process will begin rejecting this assignment also. Once gender attributes are relegated to being a choice, whether feminine, masculine or some combination, theres no longer any natural and obvious association with ones biologic, genetic and mental makeup. Since self-perception is the criteria, not the universal standard built into our design from the beginning, then on what basis will other identity realities be deemed irrational? What if someone decided they were a cat, a zombie or someone from the future, do they have a right to be legally treated accordingly? What if someone is absolutely convinced theyre an extraterrestrial or a god? Should they be accorded a special status because they sincerely believe thats who or what they are? Obviously this is farfetched. But once clear and beneficial truths are treated with contempt or rejected as being old school any criteria for judging aberrant or deviant behavior will no longer exist. The current battle over same-sex marriages is a related case in point. Same sex attraction is being equated to the natural sexual attraction between males and females. As a result, marriage as the foundational building block throughout history becomes arbitrarily redefined and inclusive. Once this happens, theres no logical reason to prevent any combination of unions, whether polygamous, brother-sister, adult-child or even parent-child. Since these unions are not part of the created order God intended for our good, the inevitable destructive consequences will follow (Genesis 2:24; Deuteronomy 5:32). The Bible never condones any type of homosexual, lesbian, bisexual or transsexual proclivities. Such practices are a perversion of what God intended when creating complementary male-female natures (Genesis 1:27, Matthew 19:4-6). A common thread in each of these abnormal sexual behaviors and compulsions is gender confusion. Its not surprising then, that the Bible also clearly condemns cross-dressing, the very behavior that typifies gender confusion (Deuteronomy 22:5). But what about the rare individuals that early in life think theyre a girl trapped in a boys body or vice versa? Instead of professional help and insightful Biblical counseling support to both the child and the parents, the current trend is to accommodate and encourage this confusion and to treat it as normal. Although being able to objectively debate this issue is one thing, its something quite different when government uses its coercive power to force accommodation and acceptance of abnormal behaviors. This is particularly true when those behaviors clearly violate reason, common sense or a faith based understanding of their intrinsic sinfulness. When government uses public policy to demand acceptance of behavior that contradicts the facts of our physical design it no longer serves the public good. Not only that, but when elected leaders cant defend sexual morality and a divine order thats withstood the test of time, consistent with objective Biblical truths, theyve become unworthy of holding their office or fulfilling its purposes (Romans 13:1-6). Obviously, the journey for those struggling with gender identity is not an easy one to sort out. But fortunately, God is not and never will be a God of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33). In fact, Gods universal moral standard still provides the only trustworthy worldview to both judge good and evil, and to offer hope for those swept up in unhealthy and unwise sexual confusion (1 Corinthians 6:9-11).
