I have no idea why the site collapsed, but a couple of years ago it was probably the most lively and diverse conservative discussion site on the web. It was way better than Neo-con Republic (which restricts opinion) or Liberty Post (which has too many trolls like Yukon disrupting things). In the early 2000's, there was another great site called Liberty Forum. It also disappeared overnight. Some of their members wound up here while others wound up on Liberty Post. Unfortunately, all of those people are gone from here (except me). Most of them are also gone from Liberty Post as well. I actually developed a new discussion site from scratch (my own code -- it only took me a few weekends). But, I'm hesitant to put it up because if you really read the fair use laws, they DO NOT cover a site like this and I don't want to run into lawsuits. Also, I want to be able to monetize the site using advertising, but that would make it an even larger target for copyright lawsuits. There are ways around this that I'm currently looking into. I contacted the AP about getting a license to their content. The site could allow users to search and flag articles they like and then hold discussions around them. But, it would require a significant monthly investment (minimum $1,500 to start) with a year contract. As the site got more popular, the costs would go up. Sure, the costs could be covered with members clicking on advertising, IF I could drive people to the site, but that doesn't happen overnight. Anyway, good luck in reviving your site, because right now I have no where to go to debate people on the issues of they day. I like debating people on the issues of the day. I will let you know if I decide to launch something myself. Right now it doesn't look like it, but we'll see.

Conservative? Not so much. When I was posting news articles, whether one agreed or disagreed with my posts, it was from mainstream, non-kook site sources and those posts were debated in good faith. This joint died when aka closed my account and the database doesn't lie to document that (Christ...I'm sounding like badeye). It is documented within the forum database should one care to confirm to my assertions.

The second one is you have those who are disrupters who do nothing but try to derail the thread just because they don't agree with what is posted... They can't/don't try to debate it civilly or just shut up and ignore it... (BTA we're all guilty of doing this just because sometimes the poster(s) are so full of schitt... Morons like Yukon are the first that come to mind)... Ignoring or bozoing them never works, ganging up on them seems to because it catches the eye of the Moderator... Then you also have the problem of website owners (both free and paid sites) having their PMS moments and getting rid of people just because they're having a bad day... (Don't know how many people I've seen become the victims of this in the 2 years I've been running/perusing the political websites)... Ya put those elements of them together and sometimes that's what you get, a "schitt happens" moment... Your feelings about all of this also depends on what you thought of the poster who got "zotted", as to if you think it was fair or not...

As much as I criticize elPee they seem to have a fairly active forum. The posters know the rules and push the envelope, i.e. "cop-sucker", etc. They stay in bounds and make it entertaining to lurk. Goldi banned me for yanking her chain one time too many. I still check there daily. I offered that advice to the ninny who runs TBL. It feel on deaf ears. I'm not sure if I'm permabanned or on some sort of 24-hour timeout. Technically, that site and my computer aren't very compatible. I'm going to night racing, final night, at Churchill. I was going to study the ponies, but I seem to do better at the betting windows when I don't.
I always did better with last minute hunches. Or seeing a horse just stand out in the post parade. I don't always like bowed necks in the warm up, in some horses it diminishes the air supply especially if they have 'flapper' problems.

Here is the deal. If I was just a poster they wouldn't give a crap. But since I'm not and I'm honest and post as myself. When they disagree they get pissed because it isn't what they believe. Even though I let serveral people who I consider assholes post here to their hearts content. It is understandable. They think I care if they leave. I don't.
