Title: Biden Pledges More Executive Action On Guns “Later This Week”

WASHINGTON — Vice President Biden told White House allies in the gun control fight Thursday that President Obama will be announcing new executive actions on gun violence in the days after the Senate voted down a gun violence bill.

On a conference call with "stakeholders," Biden told gun control advocates that the fight is not over and that eventual action on gun control will come. Press were not invited to the conference call; a participant provided BuzzFeed with access.

"Look, I know you're going to say that I'm just being an optimist and I'm trying to put a good face on this. But, you know, I've been around here a long time and we've already done, because of you, some really good things," Biden said. "Number one, the president is already lining up some additional executive actions he's going to be taking later this week."

After the Newtown shootings, Obama took a number of executive actions to expand research into gun violence and other areas favored by the gun control community. He took the actions without congressional approval, leading to outrage by some conservatives.

Biden mentioned several areas where executive action has been taken, including helping schools that want them to hire more armed police offers and training teachers to identify and treat possible future school shooters.

"Already we have put out notifications to all communities that if they want school resource officers to use their portion of the COPS grant to be able to deal with a school resource officer or someone in the school who's a counselor, or whatever they need," he said.

"Secondly, we also have pushed forward grants for new and available funding for dealing with training teachers and dealing with alerting them to high-risk, you know, kids in their communities and their school that are signs that they're going to have a real problem and may be the very kids you need to get to now before they end up like an Adam Lanza," he said. "We also are going to have a national mental health dialogue where we're going to vastly expand mental health availability under the Mental Health Parity act as well as the Affordable Care Act."

Biden said the White House is looking at ways to increase the number of people denied the right to buy a firearm under the current background check system.

"We also are reviewing the list of prohibited purchasers to maybe expand that list of prohibited purchasers," he said. "Granted, only 60% of people who go for a purchase are doing it [background checks]."

Biden lamented Wednesday's Senate vote on the call but said it had taken him multiple attempts to pass the Brady Bill in the 1990s. He said that in the long run, supporters of gun control will win out over the NRA and its allies.

Update: A White House official told BuzzFeed the executive actions Biden was referring to on the call are part of Obama's original list of 23 executive actions on guns announced in January.

Gee,THERE's a surprise!

I wonder how many hours it will take Lady Lindsey Graham and John McLunatic to join hands with them as a sign of bi-partisan loyalty?

Anyway, Judge Marianne B. Bowler indicted Dzhokhar for "use of weapons of mass destruction", namely pressure cookers packed with nails. This is the first time the term "weapon of mass destruction" is applied to a common household appliance.

For his part, Democratic leader of the House Intelligence Committee, Dutch Ruppersberger, said, after a closed-door meeting with officials from three intelligence services, that the Tsarnaevs had used a toy remote control to detonate their two bombs. He saw this as proof that the suspects had learned to make their devices by reading Inspire, the online magazine reportedly published by "Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula." However, if the first issue of the magazine (dated "Summer 2010") contains a detailed recipe for how to build a bomb from a pressure cooker, at no time does it show how to use a toy remote control to set off the explosive material inside the closed pot.

But what is most astounding lies elsewhere. A bombing drill was conducted at the Boston Marathon two hours before the tragedy at the exact location where the real bombs exploded. But when a reporter asked about this at the press conference, FBI special agent Richard Deslauriers refused to answer and sought another question.

From Your Mama's Basement:

Things came to a head in the days leading up to the French Revolution. Ideas began to circulate in the coffee houses of Paris that were actively and openly hostile to the concepts of monarchy and religion, ideas which would have been thoroughly squelched in years prior. A number of philosophers (the philosophes) wrote treatises that considered human social relations in light of logic and rationality (as did earlier English philosophers such as Hobbes) rather than custom and tradition. The encyclopaedist Denis Diderot famously wrote that "mankind will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest." The colonies of the New World existed beyond the range of kings in self-governing mode, and England's thirteen colonies decided to become completely independent and go their own way, with no king or state religion. It was explosive stuff.

Open the business section of any newspaper, turn the pages of any economics textbook, scan the minutes of any meeting of any business corporation in contemporary America or most of the modern world, and you’ll get to see a faith in economic progress as absolute and unthinking as any medieval peasant’s trust in the wonderworking bones of the local saint. In the mythic world portrayed by the prophets and visionaries of that faith, economic growth is always good, and comes as a reward to those who obey the commandments of the economists. The fact—and of course it is a fact—that obeying the commandments of the economists has by and large brought more disaster than prosperity to the industrial world’s economies for decades somehow rarely enters into these reverential thoughts.

This past week they opened the George W. Bush presidential library. One hack I heard on the radio said that GWB created 8 million jobs during his presidency. That's right - he did create 8 million McJobs. And then at the very end of his presidency, there was this big crash and 9 million jobs were lost. So let's see, 8 - 9 = -1. Looks like he lost some of Clinton's jobs too...

But since GWB is no longer POTUS, it would be unfair not to mention Obama's "accomplishments" as well. Because no matter what else he does, history will neither forgive nor forget Obama for not reforming Wall Street after the Bush fiasco. At the end of eight years, Obama will just tear off his mask and reveal that he was George W. Bush all along - "surprise motherfuckers!".

Adding to the charade, the lamestream media and ultra-buffoons in Congress pretend as though there actually is any difference between the policies of these two presidents. It's a fun parlour game for an aging generation that has nothing better to do than sit around and talk endlessly about nothing. And there is nothing quite as cynical as debating the difference between two presidents when there is no substantive difference, because the political establishment will allow no difference.

A civilian cargo aircraft has crashed in the US-run Bagram Air Base in eastern Afghanistan near the capital city, Kabul, Press TV reports.

The aircraft crashed on Monday at about 3 p.m. and there has been no immediate report on possible casualties, Afghan officials say.

Taliban have claimed that they have brought down the aircraft.

The US military officials confirmed the news of the crash, but they refrained from giving any comments about Taliban’s claim.

The cargo plane crashed from a low altitude immediately after it took off from the base, a US military official said.
