Just think Mike. If Michelle's great great.... grandmother had an abortion after her rape. There would be no Michelle Obama. She should have had an abortion right? I mean she shouldn't have been forced to carry that white asshole's kid should have she?
Rape is an act of violence, not sex. I care for the mental health of the victim of violence and respect the wishes of someone so badly violated. I doubt that someone like you who would rather see a woman die in a non-viable pregnancy can understand rape is violence. You can't even respect my strong belief that most abortions are wrong and show a strong lack of personal integrity and respect of my views in questioning them. If you can't find rapport with people who largely believe as you do on the issue, and enough people are similarly unable to network for bridges of support as badly as you are incapable of doing, then abortion will remain legal. To get anywhere politically, one must always be able to build strong coalitions of support. If one tries to get all humanity to believe solely in the way that that he or she does and refuses to deal with anything less then that, they are doomed to failure. If we get a ban on abortion as I hope we do it will only happen with some compromise, and willingness to not be revengeful toward those who believed in and supported abortion in the past.
One thing rape does not generally change if a woman's mental health is respected is how many children a woman or couple ultimately plan to have. I would rather see a couple have the children they planned to have, then to be forced to keep a parental relationship with a rapist and ultimately be too traumatized to have a second child. Rape can set in motion a situation where less children are born then would of been had the violence and violation of rape had happened. Thus your conjecture about the outcome of a rapist's child being born against the strong wishes of a woman who has to think about her mental health as much as anything is not a 'what if' game I am impressed with. I kow of no human that can predict the future well enough to change my feelings in regard to such supposition.

Rapists have no right to spread their genes by means of a heinous act of violence whereby they invade and hijack a woman's body if she choses not to have the child. In any event, the decision to have the child from a pregnancy caused by an act of violence is not mine to make. It is one the woman recovering from the violation is responsible for. However I fully understand and support any decision in the matter of keeping the pregnancy or not she makes. If you want to view that as a "failed test," go right ahead. You are as welcome to your opinion as I am to mine.
