A 30-year-old Eugene man was arrested on multiple charges after he allegedly grabbed a Eugene police officer’s Taser and then shot the officer three times with the stun gun during a scuffle outside the Good Times Tavern on East Seventh Avenue early Saturday morning. Police charged Jessie Alexander Wright, who turned 30 on Friday, with second-degree assault, assault on a police officer, unlawful use of a stun gun, unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest and interfering with police. He was lodged in the Lane County Jail. While it was not immediately clear if a Eugene officer’s stun gun had ever before been used against the officer, Sgt. David Natt said Saturday afternoon that he could not recall any such incidents during his 10-plus years on the force, which began before Tasers were assigned to officers. Medics evaluated and treated the officers as well as Wright at the scene, police said. No one appeared to require hospital attention. Police did not identify the officers involved in the incident. Natt said the officers would complete workplace injury reports but that he did not anticipate they would need to be assigned to off-duty tasks. According to a police account, the incident unfolded shortly after 2 a.m. as an officer was conducting a sobriety check on a driver in the Good Times parking lot. Wright and another person interjected their displeasure toward the officer “harassing” the driver being given the sobriety check, police said. Wright ultimately left, but Good Times staff advised police that they planned to ask Wright and his friends to leave the tavern because of their level of intoxication, and asked police to stand by in case Wright was uncooperative, police said. As an officer sought to assist an intoxicated woman who accepted an offer to have a cab called to take her home, Wright suddenly thrust his head into the officer’s patrol car and began yelling obscenities about the bar staff, police said. The officer requested back-up from two other nearby officers, and ordered Wright to leave the premises relating to the trespass order given by tavern staff, police said. Wright appeared prepared to leave when he “aggressively thrust his finger within inches of one of the officer’s face,” according to a police report. Wright was placed in an arm-bar hold and was told he was under arrest, police said. Wright immediately began to resist, police said. After multiple warnings, one of the officers sought to use his Taser stun gun on Wright, but one of the weapon’s probes did not make contact, making the deployment ineffective, police said. In the ensuing scuffle, Wright managed to grab the Taser and deploy it three times into the officer’s leg, police said. Wright also grabbed at another officer’s duty belt, grabbing an ammunition magazine and nearly grabbing the officer’s pepper spray, police said. Officers ultimately were able to deploy pepper spray on Wright, and he was taken into custody, police said. Once in custody, he kicked at officers, resulting in him being placed in a “flexible restraint device” — a nylon strap that helps immobilize the legs, Natt said. Natt said police had no initial purpose or reason to engage Wright. “It was his tenacious efforts to interact with police that resulted in an extremely unsafe situation for the officers and for himself,” Natt said. “The lesson here is that an act of resistance (to arrest) actually elevates the potential use of force to a very high level. (Wright) created a very dangerous situation that escalated very rapidly. It was unbelievably dangerous to himself.”

These cops were actually calling cabs for people too drunk to drive,and this asshat wanted to argue with them about that? He got what he asked for,so he has no reason to bitch.

My guess is is he's getting the 'asshole who tazed a cop' routine at the lane County jail and is in a medical isolation cell he fell down in while putting on his jail scrubs. He's damn lucky to be alive. Most places he would of been shot the second his finger went into a cop's face like he did before he started screaming at him.

He's damn lucky to be alive. Most places he would of been shot the second his finger went into a cop's face like he did before he started screaming at him.
