Guys,I just watched the first episode of this show a couple of nights ago,and it's a real winner.

IMHO,it is long past time these guys start to get a little bit of the credit they deserve for all the bravery and dedication they have displayed for decades,as they have winched into jungle and other hot spots while under enemy fire everywhere our men have been sent to fight,in order to rescue pilots and other air crew that were shot down behind enemy lines.

People tend to not even consider the USAF when it comes to ground combat, but let me tell you these guys are a match for anybody in any branch of the military when it comes to courage, skills, and dedication to duty.

Episode 1 airs again tonight at 8 PM,tomorrow morning at 1 AM,and Monday night at 6 PM.

All on Direct tv channel 276,or where ever the National Geographic Channel comes on your system.

Highly recommended!

This is not your typical reality tv because it is IN FACT reality. Unscripted, and the camera crews just ride along when they are called out to rescue somebody. The people you see them rescue that are wounded are really wounded. Subscribe to *Military or Vets Affairs*

Thanks for the preview. I got rid of cable/satellite over a year ago.

What types of aircraft do they normally use for their rescues? I'll guess helicopters.

Good guess. It's the only kind they can use. They have to be able to go in,pick up the wounded and the bodies, and then be able to get out again before they are overran by the enemy. They are usually under fire going in and coming out because the enemy obviously know where the crash site is because they just shot down the aircraft.

You ain't never seen anybody busy until you have seen a medic under fire try to treat the wounded and move them to a safe area while providing his own cover fire to keep the enemy off him and his patient.

In the first show they went to a SF camp and rescued a SF guy that had stepped on a mine while on patrol and blown his leg off above the knee. It was hanging by a thread. They weren't actually under fire so much this time because they had the healthy SF guys more than ready, willing, and able to lay down a field of fire to keep enemy ground assaults at bay,but they did have a Taliban suicide team heading their way across the open ground in a bomb truck. The cover choppers kept firing flares to warn the truck to stop, but they refused and just kept coming. With the ground rules of engagement being what they are, they couldn't open fire on the truck until AFTER it got close and blew itself up and killed everybody on the ground,so time was still very critical and they still had to stabilize the wounded man and get blood and a IV going before they could move him. As luck would have it,it was the SF medic that stepped on the mine,so it was up to the AF medic to do it all by himself.

This show is the only opportunity for people who have never been in ground combat to really see what it's like up close and personal, and to gain some real understanding on how bad it really is and what the guys have to go through.

They used to use MH-53 Pave Lows but the Air Force retired them about five yeas ago or so. Not sure what they use now. My brother spent his entire 23 years in the Air Force as a Pave Low crew chief (they call them fight engineers) based out of either Hurlbert Field in Florida or Kirkland, AFB in New Mexico. Their mission was to support not only para-rescue but the entire specops community, especially in Iraq and Afghanistan.
