During an interview with the Wall Street Journal posted on January 30, the Rev. Jesse Jackson said anti-government people espousing what amounts to a Confederate ideology will engage in terrorist activities unless the government enacts draconian laws restricting the possession of firearms.
Jackson said the Second Amendment provides these domestic terrorists with the ability to do something about how they feel in their effort to fight the government.
The phrase Confederate ideology is shorthand for a political philosophy that stresses states rights (including nullification) and adherence to the Constitution.
New York Rep. Charlie Rangel said in January that Southern culture a specific reference to gun culture prevalent in the South is something that Democrats must work to overcome. New York is a little different and more progressive in a lot of areas than some other states and some of the southern areas have cultures that we have to overcome, Rangel told MSNBC.
Jackson, a former Democrat presidential contender and the founder of the Rainbow Coalition, said in August that the AR-15 semiautomatic rifle is the preferred weapon for domestic, homegrown terrorism.
The Southern Poverty Law Center has also linked Second Amendment activists to terrorists. The organization argues the radical right is exploiting the gun rights issue to push a white supremacist political ideology. The SPLC has worked closely with the Department of Homeland Security. In 2009, a leaked DHS document revealed the agencys obsession with Rightwing Extremists.
In early December, sports columnist Jason Whitlock likened the NRA to the Ku Klux Klan, the racist organization established during Reconstruction by former Confederate soldiers.
You know, I did not go as far as Id like to go because my thoughts on the NRA and Americas gun culture I believe the NRA is the new KKK, Whitlock told CNNs Roland Martin.
Whitlocks comments inspired a widely-covered Bob Costas anti-Second Amendment halftime screed during a Dallas Cowboys-Philadelphia Eagles game broadcast live on NBC television.
Jacksons comments underscore an ongoing effort by Democrats and other so-called progressives to characterize Second Amendment activists as domestic terrorists.
Jackson Calls for DHS on Streets of Chicago
Jackson has also called for the federal government to put the Department of Homeland Security on the streets on Chicago, according to Reuters.
He made the comment prior to a march on the citys violence-wracked South Side. Jackson said Chicago mayor Rahmn Emanuel and city police are unable to address the problem and the federal government needs to intervene.
Chicago had 500 homicides in 2012 and more than 40 so far this year. The Obama administration and the establishment media exploited the murder of Hadiya Pendleton in Chicago after the 15-year-old girl performed at an event celebrating the inauguration of Obama last month.
The details of her death shook Chicago and gave fuel to gun-control advocates in the running debate over firearms, the New York Times reported last week. Jay Carney, Obamas press secretary, said the tragedy is another example of the problem that we need to deal with.
Jackson did not elaborate on his comment demanding the Department of Homeland Security patrol the streets of Chicago.
Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. and Rainbow PUSH Coalition call for immediate Federal Intervention and Homeland Security in Chicago as January homicide totals exceeded 45, a press release issued on Friday by Rainbow PUSH states. Reverend Jesse Jackson reaffirms that gun control reform is critical and the ban on assault weapons paramount.
The Department of Homeland Security is a cabinet-level department of the federal government. It was allegedly established in response to the September 11, 2001, attacks and describes its mission as protecting the United States from terrorist attacks, man-made accidents, and natural disasters. It was not originally mandated to work with local police.
The 2005 USA Patriot Improvement and Reauthorization Act passed by Congress, however, established a permanent police force subject to the supervision of the Secretary of Homeland Security. According to the legislation, this new federal police force is empowered to make arrests without warrant for any offense against the United States committed in their presence, or for any felony cognizable under the laws of the United States if they have reasonable grounds to believe that the person to be arrested has committed or is committing such felony.
The language conveys enormous discretionary and arbitrary powers, former Reagan Assistant Secretary of the Treasury, Paul Craig Roberts, wrote in 2006. Like every law in the US, this law also will be expansively interpreted and abused Who is going to hold accountable a federal police protected by Homeland Security and the president?
The Obama administration has yet to respond to Jacksons demand. However, as gang-related violence in Obamas hometown and elsewhere continues to claim lives and dominate headlines, it is entirely possible the federal government may directly intervene in Chicago as part of its effort to attack the Second Amendment and further meddle in local law enforcement duties under the hysterical cover of putting an end to gun violence.
When I served in the Marine Corps, I was taught that gun control meant hitting what you aimed at.
Speaking with Newsmax, former GOP Rep. Allen West said pretty much the same thing.
This is your gun control, this finger right here your index finger, he told Newsmax TV in a 15-minute exclusive interview.
Nothing happens with that gun until you put that finger into the trigger well and you pull it. So my concern is that were not talking about the real issue, were talking about a political agenda, he added. I dont [see Obama succeeding]. I think the president maybe believes he has some sort of populous mandate . . . but thats not going to fly very well.
The Florida Republican, a retired U.S. Army colonel whos a tea party favorite, said there is big concern across the country about Obama enacting an executive order to push through a firearms mandate.
Thats not in contra, as we are a republic with co-equal branches of government, separate of power so thats what really concerns people, West said.
The lawmaker said when he studied the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Virginia Tech, Columbine High School, and a Colorado movie theater the real commonality is . . . that there were parental problems, there was a mental issue.
And I think thats where we should start first and foremost, he said.
He also said that members of the military, police, and civilians are strongly responding to the possibility of a White House intervention, Newsmax reported.
You look at the state of Wyoming, which has already proposed legislation saying they will not allow any federal agent to come in and try to register someones guns or confiscates someones gun, West said.
And theyre talking about in the state of Wyoming making that a two-year penalty, a crime actually.

On the subject of the recent fiscal cliff deal, West said he did not agree with House Speaker John Boehner trying to cut a backroom deal with the president.
The House should do its will, West said. The cutting of the deal and the negotiating is when the House passes legislation, the Senate passes legislation.
If there are some differences, we call for a . . . committee of jurisdiction from both houses [to] come to together, and thats where they hammer it out.
West said hopes that in the current fiscal negotiations, the debt ceiling will not be raised, but, I dont have a lot of trust and confidence because what I have seen is people always kick the can down the road and the American people have to demand better.
There are mixed opinions on what effect the raising of the debt ceiling would do to the nations credit rating, which some say would be downgraded and other say would remain status quo.
West isnt sure there wouldnt be turbulence.
Its an incredibly big concern because right now when you look at the net interest on our debt, it is based upon interest rates that are quite low, West said.
Eventually those interest rates are going to get raised and that net interest payment on our debt is going to go skyrocketing to the point where maybe most of the revenues that are coming in monthly are going to go to service the net interest of that debt.
Turning to national security and foreign policy, West is not comfortable with the nominations of Senators Chuck Hagel and John Kerry for Secretary of Defense and Secretary of State, respectively.
I am not supportive of Sen. Hagel because, once again, you have someone that does not understand the nature of this 21st century battlefield, West said.
Anyone that is recalcitrant of declaring that Hamas, Hezbollah, the Iranian Republican Guards Corps as terrorist organizations, I dont think thats the right person to be the Secretary of Defense.
And John Kerry has concerns. I have concerns about . . . really what type of foreign policy is he going to promote: a foreign policy of strength or foreign policy of appeasement?
West, who lost last November to Democratic newcomer Patrick Murphy in Floridas 18th Congressional District, said he unsure what his next foray into politics will be.
I have not made the final decision as far as where were going to go. A lot of options and opportunities out there, West said. That decision is coming pretty soon.
(You can't always control who walks into your life but, you can control which window you throw them out of.)

Didn't he get gerrymandered out of office?
They tried that (redrawing district boundaries) with my ex rep in California, but he doubled down and got elected to US congress! Tom McClintock. One of the very few Republicans that I've voted for.
I still get his email bulletins.

Dirty, lowdown filthy street slim, who have absolutely no redeeming qualities will always go out of their way to smear and trash men, and women, who have a lifetime of excellent service to their country.
I wonder more about mental state of anyone who would even entertain voting for these rabid deseases who use them to feather their own nests/bank accounts. jmho!
