I was 'noting' it, but not catching it's significance until I read the MJ article, then the History of Lead and Leaded Gasoline and then the Chicago 500 murders while NYC dropped. Makes sense cause Chicago is always dissing the EPA and dragging it's feet on lead.....

I just went through the Mother Jones article after wading through the History of Lead. I wish I had the time, patience and knowledge background to read the comments to the MJ article - some fairly knowledgeable and opinionated readers. Really fascinating stuff and to me it appears to be scientifically sound research.

During chaos it remains positive. The Mandelbrot set illustrates the fractal nature of the ordered and chaotic regimes when x and r are extended to the complex number plane. (b) A series of 2-D views of the iteration, including periods 1, 2 and 8 chaos, intermittency, and period 3. Pick an initial value x and find y by moving vertically to the curve y = r x (1 - x). Next we let the new x = y by moving horizontally to the sloping line. The two steps result in one iteration, i.e. xn+1 = y = r xn (1 - xn). (c) The non-escaping points form a disconnected repelling fractal for r = 4.5. The attracting final set has now broken up, resulting in a fractal Julia set.
