A federal court has ruled that Oklahoma City-based Hobby Lobby and sister company Mardel must cover the morning-after pill and week-after pill as part of employee health insurance plans.

Coverage of the abortion pill is mandated by Obamacare.

The Green family that owns Hobby Lobby will be socked with a $1.3 million daily fine beginning January 1 if they refuse to provide the coverage. The store has 13,000 full-time employees at 500 stores in 41 states and provides its own health insurance.

The Christian family-owned and biblically founded arts and crafts company asked the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to block enforcement of the law. The company believes the “use of the morning-after and week-after birth control pills are tantamount to abortion because they prevent a fertilized egg from implanting in a woman’s womb,” according to CBS News.

Government lawyers argued earlier this month that the drugs do not induce abortions and that the feds have a compelling interest in mandating insurance coverage. The drugs are considered emergency postcoital contraception and are intended to disrupt ovulation or fertilization.

U.S. District Judge Joe Heaton ruled that although religious organizations and corporations have been granted constitutional protection from provisions of Obamacare regarding birth-control measures, the government does not consider Hobby Lobby a religious organization.

According to the government, the plaintiffs “have not cited, and the court has not found, any case concluding that secular, for-profit corporations such as Hobby Lobby and Mardel have a constitutional right to the free exercise of religion.”

“Every American, including family business owners like the Greens, should be free to live and do business according to their religious beliefs,” said Kyle Duncan, general counsel for the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, in a statement. The organization is representing Hobby Lobby in court. (1 image)

If Romney had won there would be legislation to correct this. Shut up about it. You sat on your ass when you could have done something. This is your fruit.

I can't figure out why women would want to pump themselves with chemicals that warp their natural reproductive process. Meaning, aren't there dangers of high blood pressure, blood clots and breast cancer by taking chemical contraceptives for an extended period of time?

Has anyone looked at how much breast cancer has increased as use of chemical contraceptives sky rocketed?

I cc'd rowdee to get her opinion.

I haven't yet figured out why women want to kill their babies. Period.

As for this insistence on being able to kill unborn babies by government and judges, they will have a higher authority to deal with in time. Woe. Woe. Woe.

Women do all kinds of things to look attractive generally to the opposite sex that often indirectly 'warps their natural reproductive process'. They pump themselves up with chemicals for breast augmentation, skin peeling, plastic surgery, wrinkle removal, fat removal or addition, removal of one or more sets of ribs to decrease waist size, etc etc.. The only time you guys object is when it directly affects reproduction.

Plus, the morning after pill is not meant to be used long term.

Almost every country in the Middle East is awash in oil, and we have to side with the one that has nothing but joos. Goddamn, that was good thinkin'. Esso posted on 2012-01-13 7:37:56 ET

I don't speak of songs often, but there is a Reba CW song that defines the type of man I am. I like my Lady (my wife) just the way she wants to be. I am saddened that men look just at the exterior. So please do not lump me in with your last sentence above.

I am not an advocate for people changing how God fashioned them. If it is a disability like a deformed arm or foot, by all means use the great medicine and knowledge out there to make it right. But just to look more appealing to a societal "norm", I say the ladies should just say no!
