A storm carrying hurricane-level winds and heavy rain tore through parts of the Pacific Northwest on Monday, leaving residents in both Washington and Oregon fighting both flooding and widespread power loss.

In Seattle, 2.14 inches of rain fell on the city throughout the day, nearly doubling the previous record high for the area, and causing dozens of accidents, The Seattle Press- Intelligencer reported. And another 13 inches of rain were recorded in the western part of the state, according to The Seattle Times.

KOMO-TV reported that authorities in King County, where Seattle is located, had tallied 66 accidents related to the weather by 4 p.m., while mudslides in the northern part of the city caused train service between Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia, to be canceled. And winds as high as 114 mph were recorded in Naselle, Washington, along the state’s southern coast.

Meanwhile, in Portland, the Associated Press reported that a 52-year-old man on a camping trip died when a tree knocked over by the storm fell on his tent, killing him instantly.

Falling trees and other issues forced officials with the Oregon Department of Transportation to ask residents to cut back on travel between Portland and the state’s coastal area. KATU-TV reported that at one point, 24,000 customers in the area were without power, though that number had been parsed down to about 6,000 by the time the storm dissipated Monday evening.

Watch KATU’s roundup of the storm’s path through Portland, aired Monday, below.

Record-Setting Storm Pounds Pacific Northwest

We are getting the tail end of it in the SF Bay Area right now. A nice soaker.

Almost every country in the Middle East is awash in oil, and we have to side with the one that has nothing but joos. Goddamn, that was good thinkin'. Esso posted on 2012-01-13 7:37:56 ET

We need rain! Never seen it this dry around these parts.

It is not easy reconstructing 'molded minds'...

El Nino seems to affect the whole country in different ways.

Record-Setting...

What horseshit.

Dec 2006 was record a setting storm. 114 mph winds. 16 inches of rain in Seattle. Half the power grid in the Northwest was destroyed. 1.8 million people without power (no power at my house for 11 days and no cable or internet for 15 days). $350 million in damages. 18 people dead... I ran into a power crew from somewhere back east who told me that the damage to the power grid was worse than Hurricane Katrina.

The last two days it's been rainy and windy, just like normal for this time of year.

I'm sure that whomever wrote this "story" is trying to link a little rain in Seattle to Hurricane Sandy to cause all of you dimwits to get agitated about "climate change".

What propaganda...

Look on the front page of the Seattle Times. Is there anything about a "record-breaking" storm? No.

So this is a lie?

Still bitter y'all got your asses kicked in the elections, eh?

So this is a lie?

Naselle is a town of 377 people, 180 miles away from Seattle. The article was written to imply massive storms, winds, flooding, etc. in the Seattle area causing traffic jams and accidents.

So, yes the article is a lie. A complete lie.

Naselle is a town of 377 people, 180 miles away from Seattle.

So just because the town only has 377 people, the winds of 114mph didn't really happen?

You are a fucking joke.
