A 3-year-old basset hound named Buddy has died after being deliberately set on fire in a ravine outside Camarillo, authorities said Tuesday. A neighbor in Camarillo Heights spotted a small blaze about 3:20 a.m. Saturday and called the Ventura County Fire Department. When firefighters arrived, they found Buddy severely burned.
Arson investigators discovered evidence that someone had poured lighter fluid on the dog, according to a news release from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
No arrests have been made. Buddy's owner, who was interviewed by investigators, was not identified.
A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
