President Barack Obama has closed to within 3 points of Republican rival Mitt Romney in Gallup's daily tracking poll of likely voters, a swing of 2 points from Tuesday. Obama also took the lead among registered voters. Since Romney led by a campaign-high of 7 points on Sunday, Obama has cut the deficit to just 3 points with likely voters, suggesting some kind of bounce following the second debate. Romney now leads the president, 50-47, among likely voters. With registered voters, Obama has taken a 48-47 lead, a reversal of Tuesday's numbers. On Tuesday, Romney had maintained a big 5-point edge among likely voters over the president. Romney also led by a point among registered voters at 48-47. Today's results include the seven-day average of last Wednesday through yesterday. That means the results feature all polling from after the candidates' second debate, including one day of polling from after the third and final debate on Monday. In other tracking polls released today, Romney led by 4 points in Rasmussen's survey. Significantly, Obama's approval rating jumped 2 points to 53 percent, well above the "safe" level for an incumbent's re-election. It nears the 54-percent level he reached earlier this month, which was the highest mark for the president in three years.

Brian the rolling average shows no bounce. Romney was 51 yesterday, 50 today. Obama was 46 yesterday, 47 today. That is not a bounce, it is within the margin of error of =/- 2 points in the Gallup poll. Nice try, the rose colored glasses need to go in the dish washer.

We all know what happened, the horrid first debate. Second debate the President stopped the hemorrhaging, third debate he won...hands down. We see by next week at this time if it holds.

We'll see as more days are included after the last debate. The trend is positive however...for now. Perhaps, but for all the MSM spinning no one won debates #2 and #3. Debate #1 sets the tone. History shows unless there is some barn burner or screw up in debate #3, it has little impact.

I know Brian's motives they are clear as you know as well. My point was a one point move with +/- of 2 points tells us nothing. If it was a two point loss and two point gain, perhaps something is happening, but debate #3 was so boring and Obama so unappealing, I find it hard to see a bounce would come out of it.

When Romney said, during the debate, that in 2008 he favored a managed bankruptcy for Detroit's auto makers, with federal guarantees for post-bankruptcy financing, Obama directly claimed this was a falsehood, repeatedly saying, "Check the record."
