WORLD WAR III Title: The Obamney Twins Compete To See Who Can Help The Muslim Brotherhood The Most I've been covering politics since 1975. In all that time I have never seen as clueless a group of people as all of those Americans who still haven't figured out the problem with so-called "neo" conservatism. Lately they've been yammering on about the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in the Mideast. We've heard that quite a bit in the many criticisms of Barack Obama's foreign policy. Most of those criticisms are well deserved - but only because Obama is following the lead of former neocon-in-chief George W. Bush. Both of what one conservative writer termed "the Obamney Twins" still don't get it. One last time: The central idea of the neocons is that it is in America's interests to bring freedom and democracy to the Mideast. Let me now state the obvious: No, it isn't. If you liberate a nation with a majority of people who are fundamentalist Muslims, then you can expect them to choose a government made up of fundamentalist Muslims. Like the Muslim Brotherhood. How can these people be so naive? I have no idea. I've been trying to educate these people for years. So has Pat Buchanan. Unfortunately Pat and I seem to be the sole conservatives working in the newspaper punditry business these days. The rest are "neo" cons like Charles Krauthammer and William Kristol or just plain cons like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Now we have Mitt Romney trying to out-neocon Obama with his call for the U.S. to help the Muslim Brotherhood and other radical Islamist groups oust the government of Syria. In a speech yeterday, Romney called for the U.S. to help the Syrian rebels "obtain the arms they need to defeat Assad's tanks, helicopters, and fighter jets." Unbelievable. Can Mitt really be that clueless? Yes, he can. Romney knows so little about the Mideast that he must rely on his neocon advisors, including "neo-Can" Dan Senor. Unfortunately Senor is a complete incompetent who helped bungle the Iraq occupation and is now busy trying to do the same to Romney's campaign. Read this piece by Clifford Kiracofe on the Sic Semper Tyrannis blog to get an idea just who makes up the Syrian opposition: We have Salafi brigades from Libya and Tunisia and so on in the mix in Syria, again moving in and out of Turkey as safe haven. The Turks are in a neo-Ottoman expansionist mode spurred by massive investments from the Gulfis/Wahhabis who have their own global jihad ongoing. Add in the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt and its secret and not so secret branches in other lands such as Syria. Why is it again that we should help those radicals come to power? Mitt doesn't have the vaguest idea. But if he'd delve into the comments on that piece, he'd come across this list of radical elements in the opposition forces. The translation from the Arabic isn't that good, but he'd get the drift from this excerpt: Foregoing of armed terrorist groups, carrying some Salafi ideology Wahhabi Takfiri criminal and follows mostly to the elders of Wahhabi and Salafi, including Ayman al-Zawahiri and his brother Mohammed, who was arrested in the area of Daria recently, and named Adnan Aeraour as well as Arifi, others carrying thought criminal bloody يمتهن murder only jihadist without religious justification for his actions, and his authority supreme on earth is the mother of inspiring: satisfactory Hariri. Or he could just watch the video below and listen as a real expert explains what the jihadists are seeking in Syria. Why can't either of the Obamney Twins get a clue? That's the real mystery here. And I confess I don't have a clue.
