Law & Order actor Richard Belzer on Wednesday may have crossed the line when he appeared on New York Citys local Fox morning show and made a joke about rape and then gave a Nazi salute to the Fox News Channel.
Rosanna Scotto, co-host of Fox 5′s Good Day New York, pointed out that co-host Dave Price could play a relative on Law & Order because he looked so similar to Belzer, who has filled the role of detective John Munch since 1993.
If he gets molested and banged in the ass, maybe, Belzer quipped. Do we have the five-second delay? Do we have the delay? Im so sorry. I meant banged against a piece of furniture.
This was really an enlightening, uh gotta go, a stunned Scotto said.
Good morning! Say Heil to all your colleagues in the other division, Belzer volunteered, waiving his hand in the air to mimic a Nazi salute.
A spokesperson for Belzer later told TMZ that the Nazi reference was a satirical gesture toward Fox News whose ideology he is opposed to.
The other portion was a joke pertaining to the material of Richards TV show, which he tweaked at the last minute to make about furniture. A joke is a joke, the spokesperson added.
TMZ also noted that Belzer, who is Jewish, had recently made a similar Nazi salute at a red carpet event in June.
