Ann Romney, the wife of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, is safe after her plane was forced to make an emergency landing Friday. According to Romney press secretary Andrea Saul, the cabin of Romney's plane filled with smoke and was forced to make an emergency landing in Colorado. Saul said that the apparent cause was an electrical fire onboard, and that all on the plane were reported to be safe. Mitt Romney and Ann spoke immediately after landing.
It's not clear where Ann Romney was traveling to, although her husband is speaking this afternoon in Las Vegas. The Romneys also have a home in San Diego, and Ann is slated to appear on the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" Tuesday in Burbank, Calif.
The Romney campaign has not had much luck with air travel this year.
The official Romney campaign plane broke down just days after its debut after a campaign stop in Richmond, Va. The candidate and senior staff were stuck on the tarmac — and subjected to songs from the traveling press corps' iPods.
Just a week earlier, on a separate charter plane, a Secret Service agent accidentally left her loaded handgun in the bathroom of the aircraft as the candidate flew to Indianapolis. The weapon was discovered by a CBS producer who informed the Secret Service about the forgotten firearm, which was then retrieved by agents.
