This week should be the crowning glory for Debbie Wasserman Schultz, chair of the DNC, as the national convention launches under her direction. Instead, Wasserman Schultz ended up setting a trap and falling into it herself in the middle of the Democratic Party celebrations. The Washington Examiner earlier reported that Wasserman Schultz had quoted Israels ambassador to the US, Michael Oren, as saying that what the Republicans are doing is dangerous for Israel. Ambassador Oren released a statement yesterday evening categorically denying hed said any such thing. Wasserman Shultz claimed in an interview on Fox shortly afterward that some conservative newspaper had deliberately misquoted her, and that she had never said any such thing: I didnt say he said that, Wasserman Schultz insisted. And unfortunately, that comment was reported by a conservative newspaper. Its not surprising they would deliberately misquote me. What I always say is that unfortunately the Republicans have made Israel a political football, which is dangerous for Israel. And Ambassador Oren has said that we cant ever suggest that there is any daylight between the two parties on Israel because there isnt. And that thats harmful to Israel. Thats what I said, and that is accurate.
The reporter for that conservative newspaper, my friend Philip Klein, responded today
by releasing the audio of Wasserman Schultz claim:
We know and Ive heard no less than Ambassador Michael Oren say this that what the Republicans are doing is dangerous for Israel. Theyre undermining Israels security by suggesting that the United States and Israel dont have anything other than a unique and close and special relationship.
The remark may have been reported by a conservative newspaper, but it was reported accurately. Debbie Wasserman Schultz flat-out lied when caught by Klein and the Examiner for lying originally about Ambassador Oren. Its safe to assume that anything else she says on this topic will be another lie to defend against the inescapable conclusion that shes already lied twice about this. And its probably safe to assume that shes going to continue lying while blaming conservatives for quoting her accurately. And on top of that, its safe to assume that shes not bright enough to realize that no ones buying her lies any longer.
This woman officially leads the Democratic Party. Keep that in mind as you watch Abortion-Palooza unfold this week.
