Clint Eastwood's heart may have been in the right place, when he accepted the invitation to speak at the Republican National Convention, Thursday (Aug. 30), but his mind was clearly somewhere else. Possibly at home with his daughters telling a story about "the good old days," because from the sounds of it, that's exactly what he thought he was doing.
Rather than firing up the crowd for Mitt Romney's acceptance speech, Eastwood confused and amused all while his chair (holding an invisible President Obama) taunted him in the distance.
The 82-year-old stopped in the middle of his speech several times, and turned to hold an intimate conversation with the chair, eliciting more nervous laughter from the audience. At one point, he slammed Obama for being a lawyer, apparently forgetting that Romney also went to Harvard Law School.
"I never thought it was a good idea for attorneys to be presidents anyway. I think it's maybe time for, maybe a uh, business man, how about that? A stellar business man. Quote on quote 'a stellar businessman,'" Eastwood rambled.
Although he was met with cheers (again, from utter confusion), veteran news anchor Brian Williams was powerless against the looming awkwardness and broke into a short but heartfelt chuckle just before offering commentary on the speech. "I'm reminded that he starred in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and I think people will find parts of all three to talk about," Williams said.
After that speech one thing is clear: Mr. Eastwood has no idea where he is, or what's going on in America.
PTSD claims are the reason the VA claims are skyrocketing. Why? Because the fluffie left has been demanding the DoD and VA treat PTSD the same as loosing an arm or leg. The DoD and VA are so scared of the left that all a Troop needs to do is say he is having problems and they get the claim.

I speak from experiencing 4 combat tours in that region. PTSD IS a wound but the numbers claiming the wound are far too many to be credible. Like all wounds some deal with them better than others. Many are seeing the financial benefits of claiming something they are adequately dealing with. There are others who need more help that don't ask for it. Those are the ones that should be considered for disability.

There is another reason they are skyrocketing, too. The VA system really pushed vets to make PTSD claims. My best GUESS for this is almost all the WW-2 and Korean War vets have already died off,and there just aren't enough VN era and newer vets to keep the current system fully staffed and operational. Fewer patients=fewer doctors needed, which equals smaller future budgets.
I never once put in for PTSD benefits, not even when it first became trendy to be a "war vic-tum and tragic figure". None the less, the VA INSISTED I had PTSD based ENTIRELY on my unit and job assignment in VN. I was told that "Anybody that did what you did must have PTSD." I told them that was bullshit and practically nobody I served with that is still alive has ever suffered from PTSD. None of this kept them from awarding me 20 or 30 percent service-connected disability based on PTSD. I WILL admit to reaching across a desk there once and grabbing a VA clerk by the throat and dragging him closer to make sure I had his full attention, but that was wholly justified. As I explained to them,"I have no anger management problems and have had no anger management problems until I started coming here and dealing with YOU MF'ers. Everywhere else I'm just fine".
So I ended up with a service-connected PTSD disability award I didn't put in for and don't think I deserve. No big deal because I was already getting paid 100 percent service-connected disability before that award,so there is no additional money or drain on the system involved. IMHO,it was just a think to keep a shrink on staff and drawing his check.
And from talking to younger vets, asking a vet if he or she wanted to put in for PTSD is now as common as saying "good morning!" to them.

90 percent of the soldiers all over "there",wherever "there" is are no more putting their lives at risk than you are sitting at home in front of your computer.
And I personally know a man who was a telephone repairman in the army in Germany that never left Germany that is now receiving PTSD benefits. How was his life at increased risk in any way due to his service, and WHAT was so traumatic about serving in Germany that caused him to have emotional problems?

Another reason is: they might want them in the system because they WILL be doing longitudinal studies, probably on the effects of spent uranium and other toxins they have been exposed to on the battlefield.
It's all good because the research leads to bigger and better protection, and weaponry.

One Warrant I have now told me it was "a wink and nod". He was more concerned about his service and combat related physical situation. Like his metal spine, bad hip, etc. That was a fight to get on paper as percentages.

Fat chance of that happening. They will never research toxins or 3rd world industrial waste. If they did they would have a bigger problem on their hands. Plus bad air and water exposure does not equal PTSD. Look more towards defects in children and cancer. I was blowing out black snot for weeks after rolling through the burning Kuwaiti oil fields in 91. Somehow that keeps falling off my medical records and I have to keep putting it back in.

I've had that very same problem with my Agent Orange hospital records. The VA even sent me to the Oschler Cancer Clinic in New Orleans for a week of tests, and for some odd reason there was not even a mention of them sending me there in my VA records, much less the reports. So I made copies of my set and hand-carried them to the VA hospital to insert into my records, and damned if THEY weren't missing the next time I went there.

Spoke with a friend of mine last night who's been there several times. He will do all in his power to avoid PTSD diagnosis for the following reasons:
He may lose his security clearance
He may lose his right to own weapons privately
He may not be able to work as a defense contractor again
There might be one or two more...but these three I remember.
IMHO,this one is the biggie. I have no doubt at all in my mind that in the near future the government will be using PTSD disability as an excuse to confiscate privately held weapons and bar people from buying or possessing new ones.
ESPECIALLY if/when riots/anarchy breaks out and Martial Law is declared. Maybe I am biased, but in MY opinion the one thing they fear more than anything else is a few million armed veterans standing up to a new police state and stopping their abuses. PTSD diagnoses will allow them the excuse the need to start rounding up "mentally unstable people with firearms."
And given how small the modern percentage of the population it is that has military experience and backgrounds, the majority of the population will go along with this because they just don't know any better.

Telephone repairmen NEVER go into combat. They aren't even issued rifles if they are serving in combat zones. Yeah, like every other soldier in the army they are theoretically "issued" a rifle, but the truth is it stays locked up in the company arms room and they see it once a year when they are required to go to the rifle range to qualify with it and then clean it before locking it away again.
For a brief time in VN I was assigned to a conventional army unit because I had physical injuries that prevented me from working as a SF soldier on a team, and I became the company armorer. The company commander, the 1st SGT,and I were the only three soldiers in that whole company that had weapons. The rifles were all locked up in arms racks, the ammunition for those weapons was all locked away in a ammo bunker buried underground between a couple of barracks, and I was the only one with the keys.
This was in a army base just outside the city of Nha Trang in Viet Nam in 1968.
I even heard stories of a 101st ABN Division Fire Base getting over ran by the NVA because other than the guys on guard duty on the perimeter nobody on the base was armed. Once the NVA broke through the perimeter they pretty much ran free with nobody and nothing to stop them until armed troops could be moved in.

Of course I do. True PTSD on a debilitating level is rare, but I have seen it. In every instance it was an individual who had been in a command decision who had lost a lot of the people in his command and even some of his personal friends due to the orders he had given. Not that they were bad orders or even unnecessary orders, but they none the less resulted in the loss of life of people they were responsible for and cared for. It's pretty damn rare for individuals to suffer from PTSD for killing an enemy that was trying to kill him and his friends, though.
I'm just not buying into the dumb-ass description given.
