Title: Why, As A Conservative, I Don't Hold Out Much Hope For Romney/Ryan

I know, I know, it isn't considered couth to point out the truth about the candidates the GOP opts to run for President. Especially when the "option" is a hard core Marxist like Barack Obama. GOP loyalists have all sorts of wacky excuses to dismiss the truth about their candidates. For example, when I point out that Mitt Romney supports several socialist ideas and governed as a moderate while in Massachusetts, I get the same, tired, excuse that he was just being a "realist". He was governing a "blue state" after all, they say.

Of course, my response to that claim is, ok, IF Mitt Romney wins in November BUT in two years Democrats retake the House and Senate (mirroring the situation he was faced when in Massachusetts), does that mean he will become a "realist" again? I.e. start governing like a limp wristed girly man and ditch conservative principles that we are now to believe he possess? Boy, you want to see someone's face get really red? That reply does it! You can see the little springs popping in their windup brains as they haven't been prepped to actually debate outside the RNC talking points memo.

Again, don't get me wrong. Mitt Romney is worlds better than Barack Obama. But that still doesn't make him capable defying gravity and returning us back to the cliff we have already jumped off of just waiting for the splat to come. He's not that kind of capable. So just know what you are getting in to when you opt to pull the lever for him.

Then you have Congressman Paul Ryan, now Mitt Romney's running mate of this fall. I've said it before, Paul Ryan is not the savior we need [1]. How can he be when he puts forth budgets that run our deficit up to $20 trillion and beyond? That's 125%+ of GDP by the way. You want to see what happens when that reality strikes? Look at Europe.

Yeah, yeah, I hear the claims about how we will "grow" ourselves out of the deficits. I've been hearing it for years. Ain't happened yet. Congress and our Presidents always find more money than we have to spend.

Congressman Ryan, for all the crafted praise about how he is a "fiscal conservative" hasn't proposed a solution that actually comes close. He's just another George W. Bush when it comes to spending. It will be less, but it will still be more than we have.

Then the Congressman is out there talking about how he wants to preserve socialist programs like Medicare. Ah, the "kinder, gentler conservatism" that makes us all cringe. Except, apparently, when the alternative is President Obama. Then many of my fellow "conservatives" conveniently opt to embrace it as their ideological anchor comes unmoored.

The Pollyannaish view of Romney/Ryan that they are capable of solving our problems is only going to come back and bite us in the rear in four, if not two, years. I think that they at least see the problems. That is something that President Obama is ideologically incapable of. But when it comes to solutions, Romney/Ryan offer, at best, half measures.
