Bang / Guns Title: Social Security Responds To Bulk Ammo Purchase & Makes Case For Armed Citizens Social Security Responds To Bulk Ammo Purchase & Makes Case For Armed Citizens Tim Brown In light of recent articles about ammunition purchases by the Department of Homeland Security and other federal agencies, including the Social Security Administrations own purchase of 174,000 .357 Sig 125 grain hollow point bullets, the SSA decided to come forward with an explanation for why they were purchasing the ammunition. The SSAs Office of the Inspector General addressed the solicitation in a blog post on the agencys website with the title, Beyond the Numbers: As we said in a recent post, our office has criminal investigators, or special agents, who are responsible for investigating violations of the laws that govern SSAs programs. Currently, about 295 special agents and supervisory special agents work in 66 offices across the United States. These investigators have full law enforcement authority, including executing search warrants and making arrests. Our investigators are similar to your State or local police officers. They use traditional investigative techniques, and they are armed when on official duty. Media reports expressed concerns over the type of ammunition ordered. In fact, this type of ammunition is standard issue for many law enforcement agencies. OIGs special agents use this ammunition during their mandatory quarterly firearms qualifications and other training sessions, to ensure agent and public safety. Additionally, the ammunition our agents use is the same type used at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. Our special agents need to be armed and trained appropriately. They not only investigate allegations of Social Security fraud, but they also are called to respond to threats against Social Security offices, employees, and customers. The blog went on to say that they do have a high regard for employee and visitor safety: As we explained in another post, SSA is processing more applications than ever, which means more traffic in SSA offices. Employee and visitor safety is the highest priority for OIG, which, together with the Federal Protective Services and local law enforcement, has jurisdiction over SSA workplaces. So they did explain this without mentioning anything about qualifying, which some of my readers pointed out that they do annually and of this I have no doubt. Thus I posted that information on the preceding articles. However, what I want to note from this is simply that the federal government is in effect making the case for citizens to be armed. Our federal government assumes they will be dealing with people with guns, both at homes they may go to and at the offices in which they work. Why should American citizens not assume the same thing? Why should we not have the mindset that anyone we come in contact with just might be someone who is bad and intends to do us harm? I am one that does not trust government because they have demonstrated how untrustworthy they are. Ill accept their explanation with extreme caution, but Ill also do likewise and purchase bulk ammunition as I am able. Its just the right thing to do. After all I want my family, visitors, and home safe and secure. Thanks Social Security for making a great argument for the Second Amendment.

If they're looking for criminals, they don't even have to leave the building. Look in the next cubicle! Shoot first, and ask questions later. /s 99.99% of gov investigations determine that it's a good shoot, and that the "perp" had it coming. Plus they get a paid vacation while the investigation's in progress. We the People use that kind of ammo too, for protection against thugs and gov opps Joker assassins.
