Bang / Guns Title: Three dead during shootout near Texas A&M as constable attempted to serve eviction notice ("automatic weapon"?) Update at 2:51 p.m.: Sgt. Jason James, spokesman for the Bryan Police Department, confirms to The News: Three were killed during todays shooting, including, as mentioned below, Brazos County Constable Brian Bachmann. Also killed, he says: a male civilian and the shooter. Right now, James says, another female bystander is hospitalized at the College Station Medical Center; her condition is unknown. Also, says James: An officer injured during the gunfight is hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Two more officers, he says, were injured but not through the initial contact with the gunman. Update at 2:40 p.m.: Were now hearing that a civilian who was shot has also died. Update at 2:22 p.m.: WFAA-TV (Channel 8) has confirmed that a Brazos County constable has been killed in the shooting near Texas A&M. A county employee said the shooting began when Constable Brian Bachmann attempted to serve an eviction notice. Bachmann, 41, had been a Brazos County sheriffs deputy since 1993 and was elected as Precinct 1 constable in January 2011. He has a wife and two children, according to his Facebook page. Update at 2:04 p.m.: The Eagle in Bryan-College Station is reporting now that one officer has been killed in todays shooting. But Sgt. Jason James, spokesman for the Bryan Police Department, will not confirm in an interview with The News because, he says, we havent released anything. He will reiterate, though: There are multiple officers injured, though were not giving out the severity of it. At least five people were taken to College Station Medical Center, though its unclear whether all were shot, The Eagle reports. Their conditions were unknown. James says hes still not sure why police were at the house from which the shots were first fired. The PD received a shots-fired call and that, he says, was the first report of an officer down. When officers got there, we received more 911 calls. The scene, he says, is secure: We have officers out there, and are asking people to avoid the area. Right now, says James, were still trying to piece together the puzzle of todays events. Update at 1:45 p.m.: What you see above is the latest report from KHOU-TV, Belos Houston affiliate. Update at 1:39 p.m.: A press conference is scheduled moments from now in College Station, where the citys official Twitter account continues to report: Shooter contained. No word yet on number of casualties or conditions. CSPD continues to work the area to ensure no other suspects remain. Various unconfirmed news accounts have as many as six injured, including two law-enforcement officers. Reports also indicate the incident began when a man barricaded in a house, armed with an automatic weapon, opened fire on officers. Update at 1:23 p.m.: College Station Police Department spokesperson Officer Rhonda Seaton just told The Dallas Morning News there are multiple injuries at the scene, including officers. But Seaton says she does know how many are injured, nor does she know the extent of the injuries. She also doesnt know if there are any fatalities, nor what sparked the incident. Seaton says the situation is under control, and at least one person has been [detained]. That person, she says, is believed to be the suspect. She isnt sure what time the department received the initial call, but that it came in as an active shooter call. Update, 1:15 p.m.: The Eagle newspaper in Bryan-College Station now reports that two officers were wounded in the shootout. Police did not confirm the report, based on scanner traffic from the scene. One of those injured may have been a constable. It remains unclear what sparked the shooting in a neighborhood at Fidelity and Highlands streets, two blocks from campus. Update, 1 p.m.: College Station police have confirmed that there are multiple casualties involved, according to KBTX-TV (Channel 3). The identities of those who were wounded remains unclear, as does their conditions. Police confirmed that the suspect has been contained. Original entry: A gunman was taken into custody near the campus of Texas A&M University early Monday afternoon, KHOU-TV reports. The schools emergency website issued a Code Maroon alert around 12:29 p.m., telling students and staff to avoid the area near the 200 block of Fidelity Drive. A few minutes later, school officials said College Station police took a shooter into custody. Police said the suspect was firing shots from a house near the campus.
