The Romney campaign got Rush Limbaugh’s and RedState’s attention today. It appeared that camp Romney was touting the Massachusetts health care law — an issue they’d spent months trying to explain away during the contentious Republican primary race. Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul, responding to a new pro-Obama super-PAC ad in which a former employee of a closed steel plant blames Bain Capital for his loss of health insurance and wife’s eventual death, praised the health care mandate Romney passed as governor of Massachusetts. “If people had been in Massachusetts, under Gov. Romney’s health care plan, they would have had health care,” Saul said on Fox News this morning. “There are a lot of people losing their jobs and losing their health care in President Obama’s economy.” Romney, too, mentioned his health care record today, seeming to imply that his background on the issue better prepared him to replace Obama’s health care law — he vows to repeal `Obama-care.’ “We’ve got to do some reforms in health care,” Romney told an audience in Des Moines this morning. “ I have some experience doing that, as you know, and I know how to make a better setting than the one we have in health care.” Top Republican commentators quickly criticized the move. Radio host Limbaugh called it a “potential gold mine” for Obama supporters: “They can say, ‘Romneycare was the basis for our health care.’” RedState.com editor Erick Erickson voiced even more alarm: “OMG. This might just be the moment Mitt Romney lost the election. Wow,” he tweeted. Romney aide Kevin Madden pushed back on the criticism, saying the remarks did not mark a shift in strategy for the campaign. “The message remains the same as the one delivered throughout this entire campaign,” he said.

"Most people prefer to believe that their leaders are just and fair, even in the face of evidence to the contrary, because once a citizen acknowledges that the government under which he lives is lying and corrupt, the citizen has to choose what he or she will do about it. To take action in the face of corrupt government entails risks of harm to life and loved ones. To choose to do nothing is to surrender one's self-image of standing for principles. Most people do not have the courage to face that choice. Hence, most propaganda is not designed to fool the critical thinker but only to give moral cowards an excuse not to think at all."
