Liberal Mayors Deny Businesses the Right to Operate in Their Cities posted on July 26, 2012 by The Godfather Big-City mayors are attacking Chick-fil-A by threatening to deny them a business license to operate. These liberal mayors don’t like the public stand the owners have taken on defending biblical marriage. This is tyranny of the first order. First it was punishment for “hate crimes,” then it was for “hate speech,” and now it’s hate “thought crimes.” The mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel, welcomes an anti-semite but refuses to allow a Christian business to operate within the city. Emanuel said, “Chick-fil-A’s values are not Chicago values. They’re not respectful of our residents, our neighbors, and our family members. And if you’re gonna be part of the Chicago community, you should reflect Chicago values.” I suppose the “values” of an anti-semite are Chicago’s values: Ignoring Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan’s history of anti-Semitic remarks, Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Wednesday welcomed the army of men dispatched to the streets by Farrakhan to stop the violence in Chicago neighborhoods. Maybe if these gang members had jobs at Chick-fil-A violence would go down. When will Jews get the message that Democrats are not their friends? Even liberal newspaper editorials think the actions of the mayors of Chicago, Boston, and Mountain View, California, are way out of line: “Public officials have a responsibility to carry out their ministerial tasks fairly and evenhandedly – and to uphold the principle of free speech – whether or not they like a business executive’s social or political stances,” the [Los Angeles] Times opined. “The Boston Globe wondered “which part of the First Amendment does [Boston Mayor Thomas] Menino not understand? A business owner’s political or religious beliefs should not be a test for the worthiness of his or her application for a business license.” What’s next? If a business owner opposes abortion — even though he is not in the anti-abortion business — will that business owner be denied a business license? Will Republican business owners be denied a business license if they oppose ObamaCare? Will churches be denied the right to exist in liberal cities if they continue to preach against abortion and homosexuality or anything else that the powers that be consider to be ideologically inappropriate? These are not far-fetched concerns. Canada and some European governments will prosecute ministers who take a public stand against homosexuality. The owners of Chick-fil-A believe certain things. Everybody believes certain things. Does a belief system disqualify someone from operating a business? Boston Mayor Tom Menino knows that he can’t deny a business license to someone for what he believes, so he’s accusing Chick-fil-A of actual discrimination: “You can’t have a business in the City of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city. We’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion.” As anyone who has followed this story knows, Chick-fil-A does not discriminate against anyone. Everybody is served. No questions are asked. It wouldn’t surprise me that there are a lot of business owners in Boston who are racists and sexists. Will the mayor shut them down? Then there’s the job side in all of this. The economy is suffering. People want jobs, and the mayors of these cities are denying people access to a great work environment, good pay, and benefits.

Even though they blame the racist white folks (who live in the suburbs) for the cities decline because of lack of tax revenue, they screw the pooch when they have a chance to make some of it back.... I never heard of Chick-fil-A until all of this nonsense came up. The really important point here is that the founder of the company dared to utter something on television that the loony left doesn't like, so now he has become the number one hate object of the left in the county. What did he say? He said that companies can't be Christian. Only individuals can be Christian. But, Chick-fil-A tries to operate their business in a Christian way. 30, 40, 50 years ago he would have been hailed by Democrats and Republicans alike as a model businessman, operating in a manner that benefits society. Today, the lunatic left demonizes him. Look, everyone here knows that I am a libertarian and I completely reject the government's authority over marriage. Marriage is a contract between two people and the government shouldn't have any real authority whatsoever to tell anyone who they can and cannot marry. Unfortunately, the lunatic left is not interested in freedom. They are interested in government validation, support, and coercion. That's the problem. The so-called "right" doesn't escape blame here either. Marriage license didn't become the norm in the U.S. until the Progressive Era. Many of today's "conservatives" are trying to conserve the Progressive Era, when they should be trying to conserve the Constitution. There is something very, very wrong in American.
Originally they were little hole in the wall chicken places in the Food Courts at Malls... Some now have moved into their own seperate building like a Mc Donalds.... They do have decent chicken sandwiches but me personally I prefer Popeyes chicken (cajun theme chicken restaurants)....

Just with some of the people.... If the average American paid more attention to what was really going on in this country, I don't think it would have gotten this bad!!! They just wouldn't/couldn't believe that the people they had been electing to Office would do the things they were doing to our freedom.... Naive I guess you could say or too trusting, whichever you prefer....

Emanuel is correct for all the wrong reasons. I think the owners of Chick-fil- A would agree Chicago "values" (I use the term loosely) are not Chick-fil-A values (I use the term strongly). Your poster comment is correct. Why would Chicago or any other city push away a successful business that not only produces revenue, but gives large donations to local activities. They are focusing on funds sent to traditional family foundations, fine and very good on them IMO. But Chick-fil-A also donates huge amounts to local sporting and recreation organizations. I know, I am a youth baseball coach and if Chick-fil-A did not sponsor our teams, the city fee to play ball and buy uniforms would be too much for the poorer families. They have offset the fees to let families with lesser means compete in competitive and recreation leagues. So once again the "rainbow" mafia and their beholden political lackies are on the warpath.

It wouldn’t surprise me that there are a lot of business owners in Boston who are racists and sexists. Will the mayor shut them down? Another key piece. In Texas Chick-fil-A for at least the past 20 years have been in malls AND in stand alone buildings like MCDs. In most places in Central Texas on the same drag you will have a Chick-fil-A, MCDs, Whataburger, DQ, and KFC or Popeyes. Good chicken. No processed crap. When you bite in, it is all white meat. If you dine in, your family is treated like royalty. I have been in four different Chick-fil-A restaurants locally and the manager in each comes up asks how the meal tastes, then grabs your cups and delivers refills. I can see why the left hates them. They are successful, polite, efficient and have not taken a government bail out:)

Don't forget Jack In the Box.... :) I was stationed in Abilene when they opened a Chick-fil-A in the Mall, don't remember exactly what year that was (90 or 91?) but yes they have been there for quite awhile... At that time it was the best chicken in town, at least for me cause I'm not really a KFC fan.... We never did get a Popeyes before I retired, but always stopped there and got some "yardbird" when we went to DFW for shopping or entertainment....

They're only 3% of the population, I can't understand why the rest of the people are willing to put up with their nonsense?? Not enough spine I guess.... The words homophobic and racist have been used so much to describe silly things that they really have no meaning anymore.... In fact I laugh most of the time when I hear people use those words!!

Whoever posted that doesn't understand that the right to bear arms shall not be infringed. And when it comes to civil war in the USA, shouldn't the citizens be at least as armed as the Government that comes after them? After all it was written so we could protect ourselves not only from others that would do us harm but a rogue Government as well. Good grief.

That too.... I never have figured out what is so interesting about shows like Survivor, Dancing with the Stars, Maury Povich and Judge Judy.... I guess using the brain isn't very important to some people, but then again they probably don't have any to start with....

Or it could be they want a little entertainment that doesn't require using the brain. Or, on my case, my quite elderly mother used to watch DWTS, and she was always asking me if I had watched this person or that person, or whatever. I finally got DISH so I could converse with her about some things she enjoyed.And I've kept watching since my Mom died because, frankly, I enjoy watching people who can use both feet to dance (in other words, I only have 2 left feet and can't dance worth a darn).
I'm not saying a little diversion from the drudgery of everyday life isn't alright.... It's just that some take it to extremes and have no clue what is actually going on and that's why this country is in the shape it's in.... There is an old saying and I know you've probably heard it from your parents, "If you don't use it you'll lose it"!!!
